UPDATE: Robertson is undergoing further tests, including a CT scan, and manager Joe Girardi admitted that the undisclosed results from the MRI exam gave the Yankees “cause for concern.”

==========

David Robertson fell down a flight of stairs while moving boxes at his spring training home and has been diagnosed with a sprained right foot.

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports that X-rays were negative, but Robertson is expected to undergo an MRI exam as well and will be in a walking boot in the meantime.

Manager Joe Girardi expressed optimism that the injury won’t keep Robertson from being ready for Opening Day, but it’s obviously too early to know that with any kind of certainty.

Losing Robertson would be a big blow to the Yankees, as he’s become one of the best, most dominant setup men in baseball and was nearly unhittable last season with a 1.08 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 67 innings working in front of Mariano Rivera. And it might also mean a return to the bullpen for Phil Hughes.

We won't miss him if it's just the first few weeks of the season. Just means that if Hughes doesn't win the 5th spot that he'll be the 7th inning guy for the time being, he was dominant in the pen in 2009, don't see why he couldn't do it again.

Just a bone bruise, apparently.

New York feared for the worst when David Robertson injured his right foot while falling down the stairs, but the Yankees got some good news after further testing.

According to manager Joe Girardi the reliever has been diagnosed with a bone bruise and will be in a walking boot through the weekend, but may be able to start throwing again soon after that if he can tolerate some discomfort.

Less than 24 hours ago Girardi called Robertson’s status “cause for concern.” Today he called the news “a huge relief.”
