James Dolan is beginning to lose confidence in Mike Woodson as head coach of the New York Knicks, according to sources.

The Knicks have lost nine straight games.

Jeff Van Gundy would be considered as a possible replacement for Woodson. It is unlikely that Van Gundy would take over any job during the middle of the season.

Van Gundy and Dolan were not on speaking terms for several years following his sudden resignation during the 01-02 season, but the two have been cordial when crossing paths last season.

Steve Mills worked with Gundy for two seasons.

Van Gundy would want input on personnel decisions in his next job, according to a source.

Van Gundy is believed to have interest in returning to the Knicks.

Its something I regret to this day, Van Gundy said of his resignation. I live with it every day and I regret it. And I let my emotions come into it. And I was just emotionally spent. I made a bad decision and I quit.I had a great job with the Knicks.

The New York Knicks could promote Allan Houston to head coach if the team is not able to turn the season around under Mike Woodson, according to a report.

George Karl went on record recently saying he would not want to join the Knicks' "hell for a million dollars."

Say what you want about Jim Dolan but hes one of about eight owners who is willing to spend money to compete for a championship, said one current NBA head coach. There are too many owners who are only in it to make money.

Houston is currently an executive under Steve Mills, who returned to the Knicks -- replacing Glen Grunwald -- before the start of training camp.
