Harden just doesn't seem like the kind of guy to be crowned best in the league.

If Rose stays healthy the whole season and is good and the Bulls are good, then Rose.

Wherever Melo goes, if that team is a #1. Melo.

If the Mavs go top 3. Dirk or Monta.

LA is a huge favorite.

But I'd say CP3
Ummm what

How would the Mavs even get to top 3 though? there's no way it'd be possible in which case they brought in a superstar, and then that superstar would be the MVP, not Dirk and DEFINITELY not Monta. The fact that his name was even brought up in this conversation is downright hysterical

It's not going to happen. There is no if.

And if it did happen, there would be some better players among the other top teams in the conferences.

Yeah I'm just wondering what the point of even bringing it up was.

"If DJ Mbenga comes back to the league and averages 30 ppg, then DJ Mbenga"

Good on me for having the same concerns about the Pelicans' future today that I did in October. at least I'm consistent

You really shouldn't. As I've said before, Pels #1 need isn't a new core, it's health. Now maybe if you said a new core is necessary around AD because the current one will never be healthy enough THEN you would have a point, but I know that isn't your angle.

I was thinking about that a couple of days ago and it opens up a whole new discussion I think. At what point do we go from hypotheticals like, "if so and so was healthy" to health being an actual part of a player's value and abilities, for the lack of a better word. We've done it with Wade for years now, but some of these players like Jrue Holiday, and I don't know, Ryan Anderson might soon fall into that category.
It's probably to early to tell, and if Jrue plays 80 games next year it's totally redundant,  but if he plays less than 50 games again next year, maybe that is what you're gonna get from that player and it needs to be taken into consideration.

He needs a sidekick. Jrue Holiday is a solid PG but he's not it. Not saying he should be gotten rid of or anything, I like his game. But Gordon can go. Evans can go. Asik should be a backup. Anderson is out from what you've said.

what you're saying isn't consistent with "needs a new core". He just needs one other star caliber player

Well it is because I think Evans and Gordon both need to go. I think they're both losers.

I think Jrue is the sidekick, I love him. He's not Curry or Westbrook but when this team should be competing for titles I don't think he will have to be. I think three things hold him back. First being like I said, he isn't Curry or Westbrook. He doesn't get you off your feet, he isn't putting up 30 a night, etc. I think there are a few reasons for that, some that are on him and some that are out of his control. He's not getting 200 possessions a game like those guys, if he was I think he could be a 20 and 9 guy. And he's calculated, he isn't going to push the issue like those guys, I've always said he's Monty's Tony Parker. Second, he just happens to be playing during a time when the lead guard position is incredibly deep. A lot of guys are REALLY good point guards, they just don't get the recognition because the talent pool is so incredibly deep at the position. I've often talked up Jrue though because he's amongst that big group of PG's but he has something that sets him apart, and that's defense. He's an elite defender. Lastly, I think the injuries have really never allowed him to get into a groove and gell with teammates. The month before he went down he was going for about 16 and 8 on 46% shooting. Season before he was going for 17 and 9 on 48% shooting before getting hurt. Continuity.

As for Asik, I think it's just a bad matchup for him. You don't have many centers in the NBA who are good in every matchup. Splitter for the Spurs was great against Memphis but horrible against Miami. The guys that can play in every game get max deals and there aren't many of them. The guy has stone hands and no lift but he's one of the best defensive centers we have in the league. Pelicans wouldn't have been anywhere near the 8th seed without him.

Evans is a whole lot better than he's given credit form. Yeah he has his fair share of deficiencies but he's worth what we paid him because he does so much and is so versatile. Gordon on the other hand, I appreciate how he has changed his game to better the team (and himself) but he's holding this team back. He could be decent elsewhere but he doesn't fit Monty's system.
