Watching players is huge.

We've said before nostalgia gets in the way of judgment .. I watched kobes while career.. which is why I said number one all time for me

Nostalgia plays a part of course

in fairness, calling Kobe #1 is just as bad as saying he's #33

Malone 1,000 less assists than one of the all time great guards.  Of course he played power forward.

I'm quite a bit older than you.  If I limit it to the players I have seen, Kobe falls right around 10ish.  Jordan, Johnson, Bird, Irving, Olajuwon, James, Shaq, Duncan
