Yanks get the leg up on Otani by bringing in his BFF Darvish. This comes after Tanaka demands too much to re-sign and the Yankees remember he wasn't great all season long. Hal wants to get under the luxury tax scale, which they will, come 2018. The Yanks also right a wrong by bringing in Bruce on a 2-year deal to play DH and mix into the OF a little bit.
 
Red Sox go for the three-headed monster in the roto by taking the Arrieta plunge. The roster is built to win now and DD isn't afraid to take risks. Despite their need for dinger power, the Red Sox were 6th in OBP this season and still back-to-back division champs. If anything hurt them this season, it was a lack of healthy, quality starters. 
 
Look out for the Angels to be spenders. Pujols' career (and contract) is nearing completion and I believe they're near separation from the Josh Hamilton dead money. LA has a lot of pressure to win with Trout in his prime and the cross-city Dodgers coming off a trip to the WS.
 
Obviously potential trades for Stanton and Donaldson can throw a wrench into a lot of this.

The money is obviously in NY, Boston, and LA. I could make a bold prediction that Milwaukee splurges to sign an SP, but that would be for the sake of being edgy..?

Of course it doesn't...which is why they're predictions. But betting on big market teams to land expensive players pays off more than not. The wildcards in this equation are the Cubs and Nationals. Both teams have owners that are rich as fuck, but both also carry a lot of salary and haven't given much indication they'll go nuts when the market opens.
 
Yankees have wanted to get under the luxury tax threshold since George died. They'll get closer to it but they still stand to gain more from being over and winning, as opposed to getting under and losing. Sniffing the World Series changes the offseason plans. There's going to be a little more emphasis on winning now and it starts this offseason. We won't see them unload prospects for Stanton but they'll spend some money to bring in a big pitcher and a big bat. 
 
There's a lot of money coming off the books this offseason and I think they're comfortable carrying the same payroll figure into next season. 
 

Yankees are gearing up for Harper this time next year

 
I don't think that's the case anymore. The Yankees have two young power hitters already in the lineup, both outperforming Harper at the plate this season, and more on the way. They can put Harper in CF or move Judge to DH but not at a $300M price tag. Yanks have to be mindful of locking a lot of these guys up longterm within the next 3-4 years.

Unless they decline Michael Brantley's option (Which they should), they won't be able to afford him.

Doesn't mean it won't happen.  A lot of times it depends on the year.  Both Sox and Yanks are transitioning with new managers and LA came off a World Series loss.  It's highly reasonable that all three of these teams are very active.
