RICHMOND, Va. -- The federal Department of Labor is accusing imprisoned NFL star Michael Vick of illegally withdrawing more than $1.3 million from a pension plan.

The department filed complaints Wednesday against Vick in federal district and bankruptcy courts in Newport News.

Vick attorney Mark Lichtenstein declined to comment on the complaints.

The department says Vick made a series of prohibited transfers from a pension plan sponsored by MV7, a celebrity marketing company owned by the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback. The department alleges that Vick violated his duties as trustee of a pension plan that covered nine current or former MV7 employees.

"This action sends a message that the Labor Department will not tolerate the misuse of plan money and will take whatever steps necessary to recover the assets owed to eligible workers," Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis said in a prepared statement.

The department also accused two of Vick's former financial advisers, Mary R. Wong and David A. Talbot, of participating in some of the transfers.

The filing further complicates Vick's bankruptcy case, which has gradually moved along in Newport News while Vick serves a 23-month prison term in the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan. The judge presiding over the bankruptcy case has ordered Vick to testify in person at next week's hearing on confirmation of his Chapter 11 plan.

The department says the plan assets were partially used to help pay the criminal restitution imposed on Vick after his federal dogfighting conspiracy conviction.

Vick is serving a 23-month prison term.

You do realize that he basically took money that was set aside for his employees' retirement plans? In other words, he stole from them.

Not something you just "let slide".

Once he is reinstated into the NFL, it really wont matter, 1.3mil can be replaced.

But Im tired of all the Vick news, he served his time, and was damn near crucified for dog fighting. Now this comes along and everyone will reply to this with some smart ass remark about how he deserves it.

It was wrong, but NONE of us KNOW anything other then what the news reports, so lets leave it at that until more is confirmed.

part of his plan when out of jail is to have the first 750k to go straight to him. Then, anything made after that would be divided out to his creditors

nowhere does it state how he would reimburse the pension plans.

this was a sneaky way of him to pay off debts while in prison

Lets also not assume that the guy is going to pick up his NFL career where it left off...if he even has one again.

The guy just f'd alot of people out of their retirement money & he can very well go straight back to jail for it. Did he deserve a year in prison for animal cruelty, yes. Does he deserve even more time for running an illegal gambling right, yes.

That said, Vick broke several laws and you should not be putting it into your head that he is suddenly some sort of victim.

LOL.
Here is another Black vs White epidemic...
A lot of white people will be like "he deserves to be locked up" while black people are like "he's done his time let him out"

Well as a white dude I'm tired of anybody regardless of race starting to think that this guy is a victim of a harsh legal system. He is an admitted and convicted felon. Several counts of animal cruelty, tax fraud, an illegal gambling operation...and a failed drug test on top of that.

You honestly think 23 months in prison is time served?

Now we've got news that he illegally spent $1.3 million in employee pension funds. For that, he should be put right back in jail along with his 2 former financial advisers that assisted in the transactions.

Leave to a black person to start on the race train. Thing is black people get a way with being more racist then white people do.

The person that brought up race was actually white. Dez didn't bring up race.

Either way, there's no reason to feel sorry for him honestly. He got crucified for this whole thing...get over it, celebrities/athletes get a lot more <Censored> than regular people.

Is that wrong, yes. Is it going to change, highly unlikely.

I'm sick of hearing about Vick.
If he comes back, so be it.
If he goes back to jail, so be it.

Let him fall off the face of the earth for all I care..

This guy would be an embarrassment if he was reinstated. Heck, it's not to late to let OJ coach my favorite team.

I'm very anti-racism and anti any discrimination, and this has nothing to do with race to me. Vick is a felon. If any white person did this I would be all over him too.
