I think it was a great deal for us for Bedard.

He will be fine as our number 5 starter, and our biggest guy we gave up was Fedo, who was our #3 catcher in the organization.

Don't pitch Bedard against the Yankees...ever.

We kill him.

Always nice to add a Canadian.

I like the pick up though. He has a decent ERA, and is an improvement over Lackey.

Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos spoke on SiriusXM's MLB Network Radio about his team's performance during the first half of the season and how he plans to be a buyer given Toronto's chances of securing a wild card berth (audio link). Anthopoulos expects to pursue pitching depth outside of the organization to help take pressure off an offense that has carried the team of late, thanks to Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion.

Definitely good news for Blue Jays fans! Always nice to know your GM believes that you can possibly make the playoffs. It's going to be tough after losing Morrow, and with not too great of a rotation though. Either way, we're only 2.5 games back from the top wild card spot. We just need to be consistent. -Optimism from a Blue Jays fan.

Jays won't make the playoffs with a rotation of Ricky, Cecil, Alvarez, Villa and Laffey. A guy like Brandon McCarthy would certainly help the Jays at this point. Hopefully Morrow comes back sooner than later too.

If we can bring in some veteran arm or something for some rotation relief, it would certainly help. Brandon McCarthy would be a helluva asset to add, but its definitely going to cost us. Ricky's having an off year though :(

Yea Beane might ask for a lot though. And Ricky had a lucky season last year but he shouldn't be this bad. Seems like he lost a lot of confidence too.

Blue Jays need to stick the course. They have by far the best farm system in the league, they just need to be patient and let their prospects continue to develop.

our starting rotation is battered right now, we've got 3 young pitchers lighting it up in the minors right now, I don't see the harm in trading just one of them for someone who's proven themselves

I would've gone after Dempster by now, if he's available
