He only played PF because there was a monster who happened to be taller than him when he was drafted.

Back to the discussion of what position bird played, I think it's a norm to say that players are defined by what position they played when they at their peak (hence why Duncan is still considered a PF when he's played a majority of the past five years ish at center). Bird undoubtedly started his career at the 4, and you can see the slight decline in his REB stats to prove when he moved to the 3.

But I don't think anyone would argue his prime was the late 80's, when he was playing the 3 with McHale at the 4. Thus, he's grouped with 3's when talked about in historical context
hasnt duncan played slightly more minutes at C? i swear i read that last season.

According to bballref Duncan has spent about 70% of his minutes at center dating back to the 00-01 season

BB ref just bases it off of speculation. Pretty sure they consider Oberto and Splitter 4's next to Duncan when in my opinion Duncan would be the 4 next to those guys.

It's all based on speculation

The Spurs listed Duncan as the 4 and splitter as the 5 and that's good enough for me

Splitter was such an active defender
He wasn't guarding 5s

They list duncan as a PF and even let lamarcus do tip offs for political reasons....like this thread

Would never be considered the greatest center of all time, but a shoe in for greatest PF.
