Top 10 SGs – More like one of the shallowest positions, this was a hard list to track down 10 guys who were deserving. There’s a large drop off after the top several SGs and with Kobe entering the twilight years of his career, this list will lose one of the better players at the position. With quite a few teams running SGs at PGs, looking at this list may have them rethinking that strategy.

1. Dwayne Wade – Rockets – 26 PPG 6.3 RPG 7.5 APG 2.1 SPG 47.8 FG% All-Star, All-League 2nd team, All-Defense team
Wade is the clear-cut top player in the league, and did play primarily PG, but since PG is such a deep position and Wade is listed at SG, he’s on this list. Wade was surprisingly left off the All-League 1st team. Regardless Wade had a player of the week award, 21 double-doubles and 2 triple-doubles. Wade dropped career highs of 41 points, 16 rebounds, 18 assists, 7 steals and 5 blocks last season. They were good enough to squeak into the playoffs at 48-34 but got swept quickly to the offseason. With Mo Williams joining the Wade, W. Chandler, and Noah will that be enough to help this team go deeper in the playoffs in what looks to be a competitive western conference?

2. Kobe Bryant – Grizzlies (Knicks) – 23.5 PPG 6.7 RPG 5.2 APG 2 SPG 46.3 FG%, All-league 3rd

NBA Champion Kobe Bryant had a terrific season for the Knicks in their championship run. Bryant was selected to the All-League 3rd team at the age of 32. He did win 1 player of the week award and managed 11 double-doubles and even 1 triple-double last year. He had some big moments along the 16-8 playoff record ultimately winning the championship over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now on the Grizzlies Kobe will be looking to hold off father time with Steve Nash for another season and help the Grizzlies make the playoffs.

3. Manu Ginobili – Celtics – 19.4 PPG 5 RPG 7.7 APG 2.3 SPG 45.4 FG% 43.6 3P% All-Star, All-League 1st team
Ginobili was a very good player with the Celtics last season along with Kevin Love and Paul Pierce. Manu managed to drop 45 points in a game last season setting a new career high at the age of 33, he even had a 14-assist game and an 11-rebound game for the 6’6” SG out of Argentina. He had 18 double-doubles and a triple-double on the year. Just barely missing the playoffs at 42-40 the Celtics will look to re-run it this season and hope for a better season.

4. Eric Gordon – Pistons – 22.2 PPG 4.4 RPG 5 APG 1.7 SPG 44.8 FG%
The Pistons were led by Gordon last season to a pedestrian 39-43 record last season. He managed to drop a career high of 40 points and did win a player of the week award. Taking this team to the playoffs will be hard for him to do, but the Pistons did bring in some help in the form of Baron Davis, who still should be good for a year or two. AK47 is another addition who had a nice training camp that can help Gordon get this team into a competitive position possibly. At just 22 years old, Gordon should still have plenty of room to develop and grow.

5. Tyreke Evans – Nets – 21.7 PPG 5.6 RPG 4 APG 1.5 SPG 44.7 FG% All-Star Rookie game
Evans was another SG who averaged some nice stats over the course of the season. He just barely missed out on a 40-point game, ended up scoring 39, and was selected to the All-Star Rookie game as a sophomore. The Nets only went 37-45 last season and missed the playoffs, will Evans and Lowry mentioned earlier be able to help this team take a jump or are they in for another rough year?

6. Kevin Martin – Magic – 20.8 PPG 4.7 PRG 2.9 APG 1.5 SPG 45.5 FG% 84.1 FT% 41.1 3P%
Martin played second fiddle next to LeBron James, but played it very well, averaging over 20 PPG and shooting good %s from all over. The Magic were able to turn in one of the best records last season thanks to the play of Martin and James at 50-32 and made it to the conference finals before being outed by the eventual champions, the New York Knicks.

7. Joe Johnson – Nuggets – 18.5 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 3 APG, 1.2 SPG 45.2 FG% 39.6 3P%
Johnson put together a good season helping the Nuggets go 39-43 and making the playoffs and beating the Phoenix Suns in round 1. With Ellis and Iguodala back for another go, the Nuggets will be looking to keep the 2nd round of the playoffs on their radar.

8. Marcus Thornton – Lakers (Pacers) – 17.6 PPG 4.4 RPG 2.3 APG 1.4 SPG 46.8 FG% 38.7 3P%
Thornton managed to contribute 17.6 ppg with the Pacers last season and earned himself some money in the offseason. After a trade or two he has found his way to the Lakers and will look to give Harden someone to pass the ball too on occasion other than Beasley. Will playing next to Harden help him play better or will it have a negative effect on his stats this year?

9. Ben Gordon – Raptors (Hawks) – 15.6 PPG 4.1 RPG 3.2 APG 1.1 SPG 48.5 FG% 46.2 3P%
Gordon played in 81 games last season which is a good 11 off from how many Andrea Bargnani played, but nevertheless Gordon was able to contribute to the failing to fly Hawks. Ben Gordon managed to shoot 48.5 % from the field and an outrageous 46.2% from 3. Gordon was recently traded to the Raptors and will look to bring his shooting to the north and hopefully avoid a winless postseason again.
10. DeMar DeRozan – Thunder – 11.5 PPG 4.5 RPG 2.2 APG 1.4 SPG 49% FG%
DeRozan may not have put up all the stats as the others did, but he really provided a spark to the Thunder late in the year and especially in the playoffs as a rookie. Look for him to have a promising sophomore season with the Thunder.

10b. Jason Richardson – Cavaliers (Rockets) – 16.3 PPG 4.6 RPG 4 APG 1.2 SPG 44.4 FG% 37.1 3P%
Jason Richardson managed to sneak into the All-Star game last year and averaged 16+ ppg spending time with the Jazz and Rockets before signing with the Cavs in the offseason. In a crowded backcourt that features Jrue Holiday, Patrick Beverley and Shannon Brown, will Richardson see the minutes he needs to use his good training camp to have another strong performance this year?

Outside looking in: Klay Thompson - Spurs
