Top 10 PGs – Point guard is the deepest position in the league as of right now and two of the best players from last season in Rose and Paul were in a tight race for the MVP award. Without further ado, here are your top 10 PGs from the 2010-2011 season.

1. Chris Paul - Raptors – 18.8 PPG, 10.3 APG, 5.1 RPG, 2.5 SPG 44 FG% 81.6 FT%

CP3 had 45 double-doubles, which is a ton, won player of the week 3 times and player of the month once last season. He was the league MVP, and all-defensive team and all-league first team. He led Toronto to a 46-36 record but couldn’t get any wins in the playoffs, he’ll be looking to buck that trend this season. He also led the league in assists with 846 and steals with 203.
2. Derrick Rose – Hornets – 27.4 PPG, 7.7 APG, 4.5 RPG, 1.5 SPG 46.5 FG% 38.4 3P%

NBA scoring champion, Derrick Rose scored a career high 46 points last season as he led the Hornets to one of the best records in the league at 49-33. Some are still shocked he wasn’t named league MVP. Like Paul he had 1 player of the month award and 3 player of the week awards, but only had 16 double-doubles compared to CP3’s 45. Rose led the entire NBA with 898 field goals last year. He won the slam dunk contest and was all-league 2nd team thanks to CP3 but did manage to win a playoff series. Rose is set to become a Restricted Free Agent after this season and you can bet teams will be throwing all their money at him in hopes to sway the Hornets to not match.

3. Russell Westbrook – Mavericks – 24.2 PPG, 8.2 APG, 5.2 RPG, 2.0 SPG 46.4 FG% 37 3P%

Westbrook paced the Mavs to a 44-38 record with an aging Kevin Garnett and a young Marc Gasol. Westbrook won 3 player of the week awards and 2 player of the month awards, and 22 double-doubles. He was selected to the All-Defensive 2nd team. He had career highs of 47 points and 21 assists last season. After a camp late in the season he helped the Mavs win even more games and helped them to a first round series win. Don’t forget they went to the finals of the midseason tournament during the All-Star break as well. Westbrook will look to keep up his hot play and help this team get further this season.

4. Stephen Curry – Hawks – 19 PPG, 8.1 APG, 5.1 RPG, 2.0 SPG 46.8 FG% 84.2 FT% 43.7 3P%

Curry had a pretty good season, but one must think if he’s capable of more. He did have 24 double-doubles last season and was the 3-Point Shootout Champion and hit a league record 162 3s over the course of the season. The Hawks were only able to go 40-42 and ended up missing the playoffs altogether last season. Coming off a very nice training camp, Curry will look to get the Hawks in the playoffs this next season.

5. James Harden – Lakers – 23.7 PPG, 5.4 APG, 5.9 RPG, 1.7 SPG 45.3 FG% 37 3P%

Possibly playing slightly out of position at PG, Harden was scoring the ball in bunches last season regardless while the Lakers only managed a 38-38 record. He was selected to represent the West in the All-Star game and did turn in one player of the week award. Maybe not as good of a training camp from Harden as the Lakers were wanting, but he’s still one of the best scorers in the league and will look to continue to be in the running for the scoring title.

6. John Wall – Bulls – 16.7 PPG 8 APG 5.2 RPG 1.9 SPG 43.3 FG%
Wall was one of the best rookies in the league last year. Winning MVP at the Rookie All-Star Game and winning Rookie of the Year as well as being named to the All-Rookie team. Wall had 24 double-doubles last season and set career highs in points 34, assists 18 and even had a game with 7 steals, that he will look to add upon next season as a sophomore. The Bulls finished at 42-40 making the playoffs barely but were unable to make a splash there. With a promising first season that ended with some playoff experience, Wall and the Bulls could be in for a bigger splash this season.

7. Jrue Holiday – Cavaliers - 17.8 PPG 7.7 APG 5 RPG 1.8 SPG 46.4 FG% 40.8 3P%

Holiday had a very promising sophomore campaign with the Cavaliers last year and was selected to participate in the All-Star Rookie game. He set career highs in points (37), rebounds (12), assists (16) and a game where he had 7 steals. He also managed to turn in 2 triple-doubles last season. He shot the ball well as you can see from his percentages and will be looking to help the Cavs improve on their 40-42 season they had last year. Will new addition NBA Champion, Patrick Beverly from the Knicks hinder Holiday’s third season in the league? All-Star Jason Richardson is also listed as a PG as of now and had a promising training camp. It remains to be seen how the Cavs roster will play out but Holiday if given the opportunity, should shine bright.

8. Mike Conley – Thunder – 14.6 PPG 8.3 APG 4.5 RPG 2.3 SPG 45 FG%
Conley helped push the Thunder into the playoffs last season regardless of a 39-43 record on the year. They even managed to get to the conference finals winning both the 1st and 2nd round in which they were the underdog. Conley had a player of the week award and was an All-Star game participant. He’s locked in for the next 5 years and the sky should be the limit for him and DeRozan.

9. Deron Williams – Clippers - 18.9 PPG, 8.8 APG, 4.4 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 45.6 FG%, 38.2 3P%

Last season on the Miami Heat, Williams had a very good year and was named to the NBA All-League 3rd team despite the Heat having an underwhelming 38-44 record. He had a game where he dropped 43 points, and another game where he set another career high with 16 assists. The 27-year-old out of Illinois will be looking to bring his leadership to the Clippers this season after the Heat decided to roll with rookie PG Kemba Walker. The Clippers finished with a better record than the Heat last year and will be hoping Williams and Bosh can be the start of something special in LA.

10. Kyle Lowry – Nets - 19.3 PPG 6.8 APG 4.9 RPG 1.5 SPG 47.4 FG%

Lowry had backcourt mate Tyreke Evans helping run the show last season for the Nets but still managed to be one of the better PGs in the league. He set career highs in points 38, Assists 14 and had a game with 6 steals and won player of the week once. Lowry shot well from the field at 47.4% but if he wants to continue to be a top PG in this league and continue to make this list, he’ll need to up his 3P% from 33%. The Nets didn’t make the playoffs last year and will be looking on Evans and Lowry to lead the way for a playoff run this season. He’s still young at 25 but will he and the Nets be able to take a step forward?

10b. Tony Parker – Spurs –19.9 PPG, 7.7 APG, 3.9 RPG, 1.7 SPG 44.7 FG%
Last season with the Warriors, Tony Parker managed to put in a solid season at point. He had 18 double-doubles and had a game where he dropped 37 points and another game where he dished out 16 assists. They did manage to make the playoffs despite a 35-47 record and even snuck away with 2 wins. But now as a member of the Spurs, Parker will look to quickly build a repertoire with DeAndre Jordan and promising rookie Klay Thompson.

Outside looking in: Kyrie Irving – Pacers, Kemba Walker – Heat, Isaiah Thomas – Grizzlies
