Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the Tennessee Titans could consider releasing RB Chris Johnson after the Super Bowl to prevent them from being on the hook for his salary.

Johnson’s contract is structured so that in 2013 he has a $10 million base salary. However, $9 million of that figure becomes guaranteed only if Johnson is still on the Titans roster by the fifth day of the waiver period.

Johnson has been struggling to regain his 2010 form and since then has been producing mediocre performances almost regularly. This season he has just 21 yards on 19 carries throughout the team’s first two games, which really makes it hard to assume that he playing under his 2013 salary.

a team with a great run blocking line could give him a shot. He's definitely washed up. 24 yards today. doubled his season yards which is pretty pathetic.

I'll tell you this: the Titans O-line isn't opening up any holes. However, CJ is not running as hard or decisive as he used to, and for the production they're getting out of him, they could pay a running back a 1/4 of what they're paying CJ and get better production, even with the line as it is. So I wouldn't be against trying to trade him or if nothing else releasing him. Plus, I like a few of the RB's in this upcoming draft, and the Titans should have a top 16 pick, so they could probably replace him pretty easily.

Andre Ellington is the only RB I'd be comfortable with in the first two rounds this year.

I figured he'd have a strong game against the Lions run defense but it didn't happen. Just terrible.

If they released him, a lot of teams would be interested, in taking a chance on him. Although, I think it'd be better to try and trade him, if they do get rid of him. Try and get something decent in return. I know their O-line isn't the best, but it'd help if he had a better attitude about it. You aren't doing well and you want to say it's because your offense, the guys who are trying to block for you, aren't doing their jobs? Not something you'd be advised to say if you want them to keep helping you. Not saying they'd tank purposely on him, but it's a team game, and you ARE apart of the problem.

Jake, what about Le'Veon or Lattimore? I can see maybe no first rounders, but I see quite a few 2nd round possibilities. But I do really like Ellington.
