Ken Whisenhunt has accepted an offer to become the next coach of the Tennessee Titans, according to league sources.

Whisenhunt was completing his duties Monday as the San Diego Chargers' offensive coordinator after the team was eliminated Sunday in the AFC divisional round by the Denver Broncos. The Detroit Lions had planned to send their team plane to San Diego in an effort to further evaluate Whisenhun, but sources say Whisenhunt asked them to put those plans on hold until he was finished with his season-ending business with the Chargers.

Fuck.

Every year it's harder and harder to chear for this organization. I hope I'll be eating these words during next season.

You know what? This may actually be good. I've always thought poorly of Whisenhunt because he never drafted a QB and kept Kolb, Skelton etc, but in reality, looking at those drafts, he actually passed on the likes of Locker, Ponder, Gabbert. Of course he could have gotten Wilson or Foles, but everyone passed on those guys.

And what he did with Rivers and the offense this year was great, but looked absolutely horrible in the playoffs :/

He was literally the last on my list of guys I wanted. Dan Quinn, Darrell Bevell, Greg Roman or even Sean McDermott would have been my first choice. But hey, I take back my first post here and I'll keep an open mind. That "Fuck." was more in line with passing on those names above I listen rather than picking Whisenhunt himself.

I am curious what this means for Locker. Yes, Whisenhunt is seen as a QB guru (Roethlisberger, Warner, Rivers) and this could be seen as help for Locker, Whisenhunt did pass on Locker in the draft in 2011. So perhaps he isn't his biggest fan. Idk. Ideally the Titans keep Locker and draft a QB in the 2nd to compete with him, unless Manziel falls to 11. I couldn't pass that up. But I'm open to giving Locker another shot. He's shown potential, but if he gets hurt again someone really needs to be there who can actually play, ala a 2nd rounder (if he loses out on starting). If Locker does get hurt again he's done. So then this 2nd rounder could be the future, or if not, they can finally go ahead and take another 1st rounder in 2015. This would be my plan, kind of like how Philly handled Vick. It was win/win.

I'm curious to see how Whisenhunt handles this. I hope his handling of Kolb/Skelton was more about Kolb's contract/lack of talent in the draft.

Whisenhunt impressed with GM Ruston Webster as his partner, believes more control and influence with Titans than Lions cap a concern

Most coaches receive 4-year deal, but Titans gave Ken Whisenhunt more than that and guaranteed the contract

Whisenhunt lost his locker room and had his team quit on him in Arizona. Not a fan of re-hires when stuff like that happens

Meh. Now that he's had the experience as a head coach, he's probably got a better idea of how to handle himself and make improvements. I'm not too worried about that.
