Tough... I really don't know.  At first I said NL Central, but I'm not so sure that's it now.

NL East and its not even close, every team is above .500 except for the Braves.

I think the NL Central is actually the best division, but the East is better than people anticipated.

NL East. Everyone's over .500 except the Braves. The Nats and Mets are legit title contenders. The Phillies are a surprise right now and the Marlins have some top tier talent.

I'm not buying the Phillies -  14-3 in 1-run games. If they were winning games by a lot maybe I'd buy them.

I'll be stunned if they sustain this kind of success.

For now it's still the AL Central. It was the only division where every team got picked by national writers to win the division. The Twins have flopped but I think that's about it. Still a four horse race.

Phillies don't count.  They'll tank by the All-Star break, so I don't even count them as good.

The AL East isn't so farfetch'd.  You can't necessarily scale competitiveness by record alone.  For years, the AL East has been the toughest division, and it's probably tougher than any of the AL divisions because of the DH, the money invested, and the players involved.

I'm finally going to vote for the AL Central.  I think the White Sox are probably the most dominant team, but I think the Royals are also good, as is the Tigers, and the Indians aren't so far off.  Very much competition there.

I completely agree with the @brett05, and honestly, I wrote this without seeing his post.

Phillies are still 7 games over .500 mid way through May. Sure they win 1 run games, but they find ways to win. They'll only get better when they keep bringing up their top prospects throughout the season. I'm a fan so I may be blinded. Not saying they'll be there at the end, but they won't be far off.

NL East or NL Central. Both have some splid teams like the Mets, Nationals, Cubs, Cardinals, Pirates. Two teams on the up with Marlins and Phillies. Then three rebuilders. Though to make a pick I will go with the East since they have one less tanker at the moment.

All I'll say is that it would make one of the best stories in baseball.  Just don't see it happening.

Regardless of current standings, I'd go NL Central. The Cardinals are off to an uncharacteristically bad start but it seems like they're in the NLCS every year. The Cubs and Pirates are playoff teams, without a doubt. Cincinnati and Milwaukee are retooling but neither is all that far removed from their last postseason appearance.

Given the total pile of garbage the NL is this year with at best 7 teams competing for 5 spots how anyone can pick any of the three divisions as the best in baseball has no logic behind it as far as I can see.

AL: 6 teams over .500, 2 right at .500

NL: 10 teams over .500, 0 right at .500

By my count the NL wins 10-8 with teams in the race...it could be totally different a month from now, but this statement is very wrong. I mean 4 out of the 5 teams in the NL East are above .500, don't think a single AL division can say that now can they?

You can't just say the records.  Pre-season there were 6 100 loss teams in the NL.  There are still only 7 teams competing for 5 spots.  You don't win playoff spots in April and May, you lose them.  You want to speak about a team like the Phillies go right ahead.  They are not a contending team.

The NL is like to have 6 of the worst teams in the power rankings.  They are also likely to have 5 of the top 7 in the same rankings.  But I still see no reason why the NL will be better than the AL when it comes to IL games.

I will talk about the Phillies because they have been fun, but you can have your own opinion too it's okay :) records can be inflated we all know that, but at the end of the day the record is really all that matters because if you're winning you're in the playoff picture, and at this moment the Phillies are.

True, at the end of the season all that matters is the record.  that we agree upon.  We also agree that one can root for any team at any time for any reason even in the cases of homerism.
