The Pittsburgh Steelers traded troubled wide receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick in this year's draft, sources confirmed Sunday night.

ESPN 1050 in New York first reported the story Sunday night.

Holmes had recently been accused of throwing a glass at a women in a lounge. No charges have been filed against him, and Holmes' lawyer, Adam Swickle, told The Associated Press a male witness has taken responsibility for tossing the glass.

Holmes was entering his fifth season with the Steelers and has 235 catches for 3,835 yards and 20 touchdowns. But he has also had off-the-field incidents. In 2006, he was involved with a domestic violence charge and in 2008, he was arrested for the possession of marijuana.

As a player, though, Holmes has the talent to be a No. 1 receiver. He was Super Bowl MVP in Super Bolw XLIII.
Jets might as well open up their own prison.

Nice to see the Steelers ridding themselves of talent though

That's an absolute steal.

A fifth rounder? That's it?

And for being in so called 'trouble', he can't hit a girl; however, Big Ben can rape anything that moves?

Damn this a great deal for the Jets. This team is starting to look really good on paper.

An absolute steal. I really don't care if the guy has had his string of legal issues over the last 4 years, he's an incredible talent -- it's a big gamble since he's beginning the season on suspension, but overall he's going to have a huge role in those other 12 games of the season.

good deal for the Jets.

I'm hearing holmes might get a 4 game suspension, so i guess this is why the Steelers did this.

I don't think the four game suspension drops Holmes value that low. I find it hard to believe nobody would give up more than a 5th. I mean Deion Branch went for a first.

He's a headcase. Straight up. The Steelers warned him after he got with pot in his car last year, told him this was the last straw, and now he's talking about pot again and <Censored>, and how the Steelers wouldn't re-sign him anyways. He's a complete fool. The Steelers needed to set an example that if people wanna mess around you are gone, he was the example. As for the Jets, I don't understand why everyone is so hot on them... They got a man who cannot catch a football, they got a guy suspended for four games and they got Cotchery who hasn't proven literally THAT much. I mean... the list is endless of guys who might pan out for them, and probably won't. I still am not personally sold on Sanchez, so the hype that is in N.Y right now (always is, but) might be in for a rude awakening with this season.

I don't see how that will hurt them -- I mean hell use him as a returner if you have too.

He's well worth a fifth-round pick, I mean c'mon. I remember that huge play he had against the Ravens in the playoffs two seasons ago. He may be a trouble-maker but he's no Pacman Jones.

His legal issues aren't that bad -- I mean he likes to hit the reef a bit -- that's fine with me.

At least he doesn't rape women, fight dogs, hit strippers, drunk drive and kill someone, or use cocaine.

Weed -- while I don't use it and don't want to turn this topic into a battle -- isn't that bad. If he wants to use it and can still preform on gameday by all means smoke out as much as you want as long as it doesn't hinder you on Sundays. Look at Tanard -- he was banned for what five games and he came back and was on top of his game.

Umm, smoking the reef may be all fine and dandy with you, it's not with the Steelers front office clearly. It's not only about that. But he was in hot water last year when he was caught with it in his car - the Steelers warned him, he violated the rules, again. What do you want them to do? He clearly didn't want to play for them at all. He came out and said "they won't re-sign me anyways!". Stuff like that isn't good to hear in the eyes of a NFL GM clearly.

Michael Phelps proves that smoking weed for an athlete isn't that bad.

But I get what you're saying.
