Albert Haynesworth wasn't unemployed for long.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have claimed the defensive lineman, who was released by the New England Patriots on Tuesday, on waivers, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Buccaneers are in need of defensive-line help after the season-ending biceps injury to Gerald McCoy. On Tuesday, Tampa Bay also signed defensive tackle John McCargo.

McCoy, a second-year defensive tackle, was placed on injured reserve Monday after tearing his right biceps during the opening quarter of a 27-16 loss to New Orleans that dropped the Bucs (4-4) into third place in the NFC South. McCoy had just returned to the lineup after sitting out the previous two games because on an ankle injury.

In six games with the Patriots, Haynesworth had just three tackles and no sacks. His last play came in Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Giants when left guard David Diehl blocked him to clear the way for Brandon Jacobs' 10-yard touchdown run with 9:10 left in the third quarter.

"I'll just say this on the Albert situation. I thought that both he and myself -- speaking for the (coaching) staff -- we really tried to make it work," Belichick said Wednesday. "He had a few limitations to overcome when he got here, but I thought he really tried to do what we asked him to do. We tried to work with him. In the end, it just didn't work out. I think the best thing we could do was move on."

Haynesworth, who missed two games this season with a back injury, wasn't involved in any public troubles with New England, unlike his two-year stay in Washington.

After signing a seven-year, $100 million free-agent contract with the Redskins after the 2008 season, Haynesworth feuded with new coach Mike Shanahan in 2010. He skipped offseason workouts because he didn't want to play nose tackle in the 3-4 defensive alignment Shanahan was installing.

Then it took him 10 days to pass his conditioning test. He lost his starting job and played in just eight games before Shanahan suspended him for the final four because of conduct detrimental to the club.

The Patriots obtained Haynesworth on July 28 for a fifth-round draft choice in 2013.

The Bucs signed some 5 year veteran when McCoy went down, not sure if he's any good though.

It hasn't worked anywhere, so what makes the Bucs think it will be any different? Not even worth taking the chance but whatever I guess.

Having a guy like Haynesworth in a locker room with so many young guys could be a big problem waiting to happen.

Dominik: Leash Is Short For Haynesworth

Pro Football Talk - The Buccaneers claimed defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth off waivers on Wednesday.

The team admitted that the move was related to Gerald McCoy's season-ending injury.

"This is predicated on losing Gerald McCoy," general manager Mark Dominik told NFL.com. "If that doesn't happen, this doesn't happen, we don't claim Haynesworth. The reality, we lost Gerald for the season, we're 4-4 and still in the thick of it, we've lost our last two and we're one game off the wild card. We don't think we're out of it."

Dominik added that Haynesworth will be sent packing if he doesn't fall in line.

"Sure it is," Dominik said in response to the question of whether the leash on Haynesworth is short.

"He does have history, of course. But at the end of the day, you talk to anyone in the NFL, week to week, and you know you can be the hero one week, and be the villain the next. It's tough for any player under that scrutiny. But that's the nature of our business. He's gonna have a shorter leash, but if he's prepared and ready to play, he'll play."

Hes just motivation to the youngins about how fast you fall off the map when you eat too many twinkies.

What a guy. He doesn't care and other teams keep giving him $$ to not care. W/e.
