There are seemingly few places to go once you've won five World Series, dated multiple members of the Maxim Hot 100 list and rank as one of the brightest stars in the brightest city on the planet.
But Derek Jeter(notes) is forever looking forward, which is why he says wants to be like Mike and one day be the owner of his own professional sports team.
And not just as the toothless figurehead for a larger investment group — think Kevin Pollak's Phillip Green character in "Casino" — but as the guy who calls all the shots and wields all the power.
Gee wonder where he got that idea from?
From the Associated Press:
"The only interest I have in ownership is to be able to call the shots," Jeter said. "I've said that time and time again."
Jeter clearly has given some thought to life after baseball. He's known Jordan since the Hall of Famer gave up basketball to pursue a short-lived pro baseball career, and said he hopes to learn from him.
"I'm happy for him. I know it's something he's wanted to do for quite some time. ... Not too many former players get an opportunity to be an owner. It's something I'd like to do as well," Jeter said.
It's interesting that Jeter is planning a few moves down the road — he's still only 35 and has more than a few seasons left — but he's going to need to sell a lot more bottles of cologne and Gatorade if he wants to become the first baseball player to become a majority owner. Seizing control of a team obviously takes a lot of cash and he's not at Jordan's level yet.
Still, if you had to place your money on one current baseball guy to tear down the walls of the board room, Jeter would be it. Maybe one day.
