Yet how can we be sure that Alfred Morris isn't another product of Shanahan's system? I mean, there are guys like Olandis Gary who were good with Shanahan who weren't even a blip on the radar once they were out of it.

Because Morris actually has talent, and it's evident when you watch him play.  Zone read, RG3, ZBS, whatever you want to point your finger at and say was responsible for Morris' success, he still had to actually make things happen with the ball in his hands.  I believe he was 3rd in the league in yards after contact, and he lead the league in broken tackles last season.
 
Morris gained 334 yards last year on zone read running plays.  Even without any of those yards, he still would have finished something like 6th or 7th in the league in rushing.

Those stats are either horribly inaccurate, or they have a very loose definition of a broken tackle.
 
ESPN has posted several articles saying Morris led the league in broken tackles last season.

PFF lists Morris 3rd in the league in forced missed tackles.  Which is actually breaking a tackle.
 
FO considers "eluding" a tackle, or juking a defender a broken tackle.  PFF also says McCoy forced considerably less missed tackles than Morris, but FO lists McCoy as the league leader.
 
Nobody actually keeps track of this shit.  I'm going by what I saw, and Morris is an impressive runner.  A consistent 4-5 yards every time he touched the ball.
