I dont like to think how many times that title has been used on posts around the internet, but here we are once again.

This needs some prefacing: I love Rondo. I think hes a great point guard certainly top-5 in the NBA when healthy and I think he can absolutely be the point guard AND the second-best player on a championship team. Hes flawed, but hes brilliantly useful, like a rook in chess. He can only do a few things, but he uses those few things to get just about anywhere he wants on the board. Hes incredibly talented, hes an enigma, and hes supremely interesting. I love having him around.

But after the Celtics whiffed on a top lottery pick, there are real questions to be asked about Rondos fit with the team going forward. At number six, the Celtics will frankly find it difficult to put together a package good enough to make Minnesota surrender Kevin Love. The sixth pick would yield a solid replacement (Aaron Gordon and/or Julius Randle both promise to be available), but Bostons only real asset is Jared Sullinger, and the Wolves dont really want a poor mans version of what they already have, especially if the best player available at number six will ALSO be a poor mans version of what they already have. The collection of picks looks nice, but without young assets, the Wolves might very well choose to look elsewhere.

The main problem I have with the article is that it suggest trading Rondo, just as justification to take Marcus Smart. Like, why?

I get we aren't winning any time soon, but Rondo will absolutely help the development of young players more than other point guards would. A deal like the article suggested, Rondo to the Lakers for #7 overall, just isn't worth it.

I'd be fine with trading Rondo if it were for the right package. #7 for Rondo? Pass. #8+Ben Macklemore+Derrick Williams+Jason Terry (would be bought out)? Maybe.

If we can dump Gerald Wallace's contract in the process tho? Absolutely i'm in.

I agree.  Rondo is a solid player, but really has not had much around him the past few years (plus his injuries). Get him a Kevin Love type and he will be back to the old Rondo.  As a Suns, fan I would love to have him on our team and that's how I would feel as a Celtics fan to keep him.  Should be interesting to see what ends up happening here in the next few months.  Off season in all sports is pretty cool with all the acquisitions that go on..

The Celtics don't have enough to get a "Kevin Love type"

Also, that Kings hypothetical that was "maybe'd" is the offer the Kings would give for Kevin Love, not Rondo.
