Reason why he's not in the HOF right now:

As many of you know, Joe Jackson — one of the greatest players ever — was banned for life after allegedly throwing the 1919 World Series to the Cincinnati Reds as a member of the Chicago White Sox.
Jackson’s candidacy was discussed by New York Times best-selling author Kostya Kennedy in his recent book, “Pete Rose: An American Dilemma.” Unfortunately, Kennedy seems to dismiss the notion by simply quoting some of Jackson’s grand-jury testimony.
Kennedy quotes a few questions and answers from that testimony, where Jackson admitted that he was supposed to receive $20,000 to throw the World Series but only received $5,000. Another question/answer quoted by Kennedy from Jackson’s testimony was:
Q: Then you went ahead and threw the second game … is that right?
A: We went ahead and threw the second game.

Yes

And all of the stats from that series show he had a change of heart and tried to win.

yeah i read up on it a bit one time and he tried to win. from wiki

Jackson reportedly refused the $5,000 bribe on two separate occasions—despite the fact that it would effectively double his salary—only to have teammate Lefty Williams toss the cash on the floor of his hotel room. Jackson then reportedly tried to tell White Sox owner Charles Comiskey about the fix, but Comiskey refused to meet with him.[21] Unable to afford legal counsel, Jackson was represented by team attorney Alfred Austrian—a clear conflict of interest. Before Jackson's grand jury testimony, Austrian allegedly elicited Jackson's admission of his supposed role in the fix by plying him with whiskey.[13] Austrian was also able to persuade the nearly illiterate Jackson to sign a waiver of immunity from prosecution.[21] Years later, the other seven players implicated in the scandal confirmed that Jackson was never at any of the meetings. Williams said that they only mentioned Jackson's name to give their plot more credibility. Jackson's performance during the series further suggests his innocence.

The MLB is usually 100 years behind the times, so give them time to make the right decision.

I think he and Rose should be. I understand what they did was very wrong, but that doesn't take away from the fact they were a couple of the greatest baseball players in league history.
