I can't really disagree with that, but he would make the offense much more versatile.  If you had Sproles and Reggie Bush on the field at the same time, along with Calvin Johnson and a #2 WR that will presumably be better than what the team offered as a #2 WR last season, that would REALLY stretch defenses out and make them always vulnerable.
 
If I were running the team and got to do what I want, and the free agents I want actually wanted to come here, I would build the offense through free agency by adding Sproles and Emmanuel Sanders, and re-signing Pettigrew.
 
Then I would spend basically every draft pick on back seven defensive players.
