Colorado Rockies rookie shortstop Trevor Story now has his place in baseball's record book.

Story is the first player since 1900 to open his career with home runs in his first three games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

While Story is the first rookie to begin his career with homers in his first three games, he's not the only player with that streak alive this season. Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano hit his third home run in as many games on Wednesday as well in a 9-5 victory over Texas.

The overall record for most home runs to start a season is four, a mark shared by four players.

The Rockies' rookie shortstop is enjoying a storybook start to his career.

Story continued his streak with a 2-run shot in the first inning of Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks to give him four on the year. His four long balls in the first three games is also the most for a rookie player since 1900, according to Elias.

On Monday, the 23-year-old became the first player to hit two home runs while debuting in the major leagues on Opening Day. He then added a home run in Tuesday's win over the D-backs.

With his home run on Wednesday Story surpassed Joe Cunningham, who also hit three home runs in his first two career games when he debuted for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1954.

Todd Helton was the only other Rockies player to homer in his first two career games, in 1997.

This dude has some wicked power and has been killing it since the beginning of spring training.

When and if Jose Reyes comes back, what happens to Story? Do you sit 22M per year Reyes in favor of Story?

Reyes' value is decreasing daily.
Story is on pace for 216 homers this season. That would be a record, I believe.

Reyes is an afterthought. Wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him in the Rockies' clubhouse again. Story was drafted in anticipation of Tulo not finishing his career in Colorado. I'm actually surprised some believed Cristian Adames had a shot at beating Story this Spring.

Find a team in dire need of a SS and send Reyes and cash. He never had a place in Colorado.

Never did but he was definitely a necessity to the Tulo deal last year but no way they keep that huge salary on the bench. They'll send him off along with cash somewhere. Gonna have to be a hefty amount of cash since I believe he's due around 44M the next two years followed by a club option with a buyout.

Pretty sad when it comes down to that.

Who's being drafted so Story won't finish his career in Colorado?

As for Reyes, Rockies blew their chances of trading him. Since the Reyes trade, he's been dead weight. He should have been traded right when they got him. Incompetent management kept him.

This guy is unreal right now. I do believe it won't last though. Just as quickly as he looks amazing, he will fall back to Earth.

Well, when I watched him, he legit takes power swings almost every time he swings. Eventually he will wear down. Either that or he's going to break some more home run records.

When he hits that wall, he'll be hitting .275. That's why I didn't pick him up on my fantasy. He's going to fade real fast. Will still have respectable numbers, but it's pretty much inevitable that he will hit a bad streak.

23 year old rookie is going to hit a wall and go on a bad streak.

That's a bold prediction. I seriously thought this kid with a MiLB career SLG of .469 was going to hit 50 HRs this year.

Eventually he'll go on a cold slump. And by then team scouts will have figured out which pitches he hits, what he misses, where he misses, etc. They'll know his hot and cold zones, approach at the plate, and he'll come back to earth.

He definitely has some pop though, and in Colorado you never know....

Certainly been fun to watch, even when he was shelling the Dbacks (although, that seems to be a trend for everyone).

It's not negativity, it's realism.

I am very negative to the Sox though. I don't believe until I see.

Every year a guy gets off to a ridiculous start and of course Story won't keep this pace forever. But damn, enjoy the moment man. Let people be excited about it while it's happening.

I just don't think it's great to make a big deal out of something that clearly won't last. Now if the Rockies were cruising in first place, that'd be another whole story.

Whether Story's power will last is irrelevant to what people are celebrating as having already happened.
