Oh, there's no question he's smart from the idea perspective, but he's too irrational with his decision making. I don't honestly think Daryl Morey understands any philosophy other than "win now." While you want a GM with that perspective, when you jettison people constantly (which Daryl does--so many trades, and nobody is ever safe unless they're TMac/Harden/Howard level), you create an aura of instability that other players see and therefore may choose to not go to Houston. 

Why would any mid-level/role player want to sign in Houston when they know they could be viewed as a trade asset within 6 months? For instance--I'm very very surprised the Trevor Ariza was even remotely interested in coming back to Houston. Dude didn't even make it a year the first time around.
