Nobody believes Russ is not going to be on OKC's opening night roster, so I'm not sure what the hell you're referring to

It's not like Westbrook is breaking a trend by not staying in OKC either. He's the 3rd longest tenured player in the league right now among players who have only played for one team, behind Conley in 2007 and Dirk in '98. And Westbrook hasn't even hit his second major contract yet, which is the majority of when players leave for new opportunities if they haven't moved on already.

Dirk, Duncan, Kobe, and Mike Conley. Those are the only three players that I can find that have stayed on one team their entire career and had at least 3 major contracts, and I don't feel like looking past 1990 to see if there are more. Four players within 27 years.

Idk why Westbrook would be considered the exception

Because Paulius lives in some fantasy land where all his favourite players are loyal and would never do something like look out for their best interests
Player 1 - 6 rings - stayed
Player 2 - 2 rings - stayed
Player 3 - 5 rings - stayed
Player 4 - 0 rings - staying and will win just like the others

So no its not some fantasy land. They actually just never leave because their interests are to win the ship and they get it done where they start their careers. One more dude to go

Personally I think they would have been smart to trade him to the Lakers for Lonzo or to Boston for Markelle before the draft, and actually rebuild, but I never actually expected Presti to act upon it

Thunder fans + Paulius want to think he's a OKC-lifer, because he extended his contract once KD left. He's just doing similar to what Hayward will do this offseason, and PG13 the next -- sign a small term deal so they can re-enter Free Agency after 10 years of experience, and get 35% of the cap.

By signing the deal he did last year, Westbrook took a $17M salary last year and made it into $26.5M. A 4 year deal for him this offseason is $127.7M, where as next year (when he opts out) its $155M. He literally made like $38M extra by pushing back FA a year. It's not because he's "loyal"

Hes signing the extension stop it
He'd be 100% dumb as rocks to sign the extension this year
Lets just say he wants to stay in OKC forever, like you want him to. I disagree, but for reasons sake.

If he signs the extension this offseason, its for the supermax at a $99M cap. That's a deal that once his current deal ends, is a 5 year $200.97M contract

Or he can wait a year, opt out, and at the $103M cap sign with OKC for a 5 year $209.09M contract.

Why would he extend this offseason? He can fully plan to stay with the Thunder, but not lose $9M just for signing too early

I was mostly looking for players with max-earning contracts, not someone who earned $55M in the same timeframe Wade earned $176M

but i'll let it slide lol

but you won't know that, at all. he's not signing the extension this year, and won't make a decision until next offseason. And he'll probably have meetings with Ballmer/West, and Magic as well before making his decision too. He might stay in OKC. Idk why he would -- he's a lot more marketable in LA for a guy obsessed with marketability, but I wouldn't bet money on him staying
