J.B. Bickerstaff has withdrawn his candidacy to remain head coach of the Houston Rockets.

Bickerstaff met with ownership and the front office on Monday.

Bickerstaff has received interest from rival teams about lead assistant coaching positions.

After the Rockets fired Kevin McHale in November, Bickerstaff was elevated to interim head coach.

The Houston Rockets have already met with Sam Cassell and Chris Finch about their head coaching vacancy.

Cassell is one of the Rockets' most popular former players and owner Les Alexander has a strong fondness for him. Cassell has been an assistant in the NBA over the past seven seasons.

Jeff Van Gundy also remains high on the Rockets' list.

Jeff Hornacek and Stephen Silas are also candidates for the job. ESPN's Marc Stein reports Mike D'Antoni and Frank Vogel are also candidates.

The Rockets' list of candidates could reach 10-15.

I read they interviewed D'Antoni. Hardon would be a sight to see defensively if that were to be the hire.

Said this in the other post

I think this is a good move for Houston [to move on from JB]. They had an awful locker room this past season, and really talent wise was not much worse than the team that 3rd in the West the year prior. They should have been so much better, but it was ruined by a cancerous lockerroom.

Get new faces in there. JB is a solid coach, but not one that can get you back to the Top 4 seeds

If you're in the NBA, and you're not motivated to give 100% effort every night, no coach is going to change that.  That's a personnel problem.

I think they should go with Kenny Smith. He has a lot of experiencing racing Shaq to a video board.

Not sure how smart it would be to hire a guy who has literally no coaching or executive experience, but go for it i suppose.

Also not quite sure why he would want to leave his gig at TNT for this. I imagine he gets paid fairly well there, works once a week for like an hour, and then gets the entire summer off.

He might coach an AAU team in Houston can't remember. Not that that's much experience haha

Taking over a messy locker room doesn't seem ideal for Blatt after what just happened to him

Vogel. Please. No left field hires. Hire a real goddamn coach.

And it better be someone who holds Harden accountable. I'm sick of this he does what he wants bullshit.

Then trade the fucking loser. I'd rather start over than suffer through 10+ years of never being real contenders.
