This could be a real bargain if he turns into an all star pitcher. The Toronto Blue Jays have locked up a big part of their future as the team has signed Ricky Romero to a five-year, $30.1 million extension. The deal will run through 2015 and includes a team option for the 2016 season. The contract is the largest guarantee ever for pitcher with less than two years of Major League service. The 25-year old southpaw is enjoying a solid sophomore campaign with the Jays, he sports a 9-7 record with a 3.53 earned run average and 132 strike outs in 153 innings. Originally a first round pick (sixth overall) of the Blue Jays in 2005, the organization believe that the East Los Angeles native can be an anchor in the teams rotation for the foreseeable future.
