Report: Tom Coughlin could resign on Monday

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin could resign as early as Monday, Fox Sports’ Mike Garofalo said on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd on Friday.

“This is a different Tom Coughlin, and I think he’s ready to move away,” Garofalo said. “A lot of people are talking as if it’s an inevitability that on Monday he is going to resign. I am hearing that from a lot of people.”

Coughlin, 69, has been the Giants’ head coach since 2004 and has won two Super Bowls on top of three NFC East Division titles with five playoff trips to go with a 102-89 record. However, the Giants have not made the playoffs since last winning the Super Bowl and are currently 6-9, which gives them their third straight losing season under Coughlin.

The situation cannot be blamed entirely on Coughlin, as the Giants have seen draft picks not pan out as well as dealt with major injury problems, namely to star pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul, but all signs do point to a change being needed.

Granted, nothing is official on this front yet, but stay tuned to Campus Sports for further updates!

seems like he was either going to resign or be fired the last five years

The Giants are a professionally run organization and would never entertain hiring a coach that is a joke.

Its time for Tom to retire, very appreciative for the 2 Super Bowls, but this team hasnt made the playoffs in like 5 years. Its time for a new voice and preferably a defensive minded head coach that can turn around that decrepit defense due to Jerry Reese.

This guy was mediocre as hell and would have been fired years ago if he hadn't had two of the luckiest runs in history.

You know, I really like your secondary, but you definitely need some real linebackers and another pass rusher.

75% of the blame goes on Jerry Reese. Yeah, he drafted JPP, Prince Amukamara & Odell Beckham. But those are the only guys who have panned out. He seems to have no idea how to draft talent outside of the 1st round.

And I can't remember the last time we drafted a Linebacker in the first round.

we need more than 1 more pass rusher. We need at least 2. JPP will never be the same again. He'll still have some value next season, but we need at least 2 more guys who can get to the QB.

his later drafts have been great. Flowers has great potential, Pugh is a very solid OT/even better G, Weston Richburg was my favorite C in that draft and he's a Top 10 in the league. Those are 3 really good young OL to help build with. Landon Collins looks real solid too at SS, although I think they should have him at the role Deone Bucannon has in ARZ (LB, and play a lot of CBs on the field)

The drafting is fine. It's the FA that the Giants can't do

Giants Task List:

Drop Randle (ha, get it?)
Sign a fast-ish TE/receiver TE
Draft a CB/S in the 1st
Draft a RT in the 2nd round
Sign athletic LBs
Sign 3T

I'll look more into personnel later, but if the Giants do that, they'll own the division. And they need a new trainer for health reasons. Y'all are always so injured

Well yes, his later drafts seem to have potential. But I'm saying that from like 08-13, everyone he drafted in rounds 2+ were useless. Obviously there's little chanc

they'll draft the best talent available in the draft, unless Reese is gone. They always do that. They rarely draft based on necessity. Giants will end up drafting a T in the first and a defensive player in the 2nd.

That's perfectly fine. You have four studs on OL and you're set for years

I know most fans hate the non-flashy 1st rounders, but a 1st round OL is hardly ever bad

Oh I'd be fine with that. Can't protect a QB or establish a run game without a killer Offensive Line.

That's why drafting well outside of the first round is a necessity these next 2-3 years if we really want to rebuild.

The 2nd run was lucky. The first, eh. I mean the Giants looked great the following season until plaxico....

The Redskins were 3-1 against the Giants during both of their title years, so they're basically co-champs.
