Houston Texans linebacker Mario Williams is out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle and will have surgery this week, the Houston Chronicle reported Monday.
Williams was scheduled for an MRI exam Monday to determine the extent of the injury he suffered during the first half of the Texans' 25-20 loss to the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Texans coach Gary Kubiak offered no specifics on Williams' condition after the game.
Williams did not return to the game after leaving with the injury. He recorded a sack of Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell with about five minutes left in the first quarter, and left the game soon thereafter.
Williams had 5.0 sacks this season.
