Report: Gurley was paid $2,000 for autographs

Georgia junior RB Todd Gurley was paid "just shy of $2,000 for the two" autograph sessions that resulted in his suspension, according to TMZ.

The story has taken off overnight, with multiple sports content producers revealing they were contacted by a sports memorabilia distributor saying Gurley had been accepting money for his signature, and the salesman wanting the news to be published. In many cases this occurred around September 30. Sports Illustrated's Andy Staples also reported the amount Gurley received was $400 for 80 items. ESPN's Darren Rovell added the running back was looking for $8 to $25 per signature. The real story that future NCAA athletes can learn from is this: the same person paying you small sums for your signature is the same person that will rat you out to the media or the NCAA, potentially for a larger sum than he paid for the autograph in the first place.

We can all agree the NCAA rule is dumb, right? Dez Bryant once got in trouble because Deion Sanders bought him lunch. NCAA rules are dumb.

I'm sure we can also all agree that the rules are the rules and to be the Heisman favorite and a legitimate 1st round NFL RB prospect, to break this rule is so incredibly stupid beyond belief.

Yep.  All think they won't get caught, but pretty hard these days to get away with anything.  Besides losing the Heisman (which it was pretty much his, IMO), this might be a blessing in disguise for Gurley.  His draft status won't drop because of this and now he doesn't jeopardize the chance of getting hurt.  As a Cardinals fan, I would to have him in Arizona

But what if his family needed money now?

Steal it or beg the government for it like every other poor person does.
