Report: 3B Rodriguez won't accept PED penalty

While most players embroiled in the Biogenesis investigation plan on accepting suspensions of at least 50 games, Alex Rodriguez remains firm on not bartering a deal with baseball.

MLB holds "overwhelming" evidence against Rodriguez, according to a Yahoo! Sports report, including text messages between the tainted slugger and Biogenesis clinic founder Tony Bosch. Yahoo reports that a dozen or so players are expected to agree to suspensions within the next three days, while A-Rod plans to fight any penalty levied against him, even under threat of a lifetime ban from baseball. The league is fearful that a suspension would allow Rodriguez to play within the next week while the rest of the players involved with Biogenesis are punished.

Everyone thinks (and knows) his career is tainted, just take the suspension.

Alex Rodriguez - 3B - Yankees

Major League Baseball will suspend Alex Rodriguez for life if he doesn't reach a settlement in connection with the Biogenesis saga, reports Craig Calcaterra of HardballTalk.

HBT has been told that baseball knows that the presiding arbitrator (Fredric Horowitz) may not uphold a lifetime suspension because A-Rod has never been disciplined for PED use before. Even if Horowitz reduced the suspension on appeal, however, baseball believes Rodriguez would ultimately be given a punishment of at least 150 games, close to the deal they are currently offering the third baseman. Because the league has "compelling evidence" against Rodriguez, the specifics of which can be read in the link below, they aren't even willing to offer him a 100-game suspension. Rodriguez is a "in for a world of hurt," according to HBT's source.

Negotiations between Alex Rodriguez and Major League Baseball are apparently stuck on Rodriguez's desire to make sure he can cash in on at least some of the remaining $100 million owed under his contract and there's also a wide gap between the suspension he is willing to accept and the one MLB would like to issue two sources familiar with the talks told ESPN's "Outside the Lines."

The suspension of Rodriguez and eight other major league players should be announced within the next few days with most of the other eight expected to accept 50-game suspensions without appealing.

If Rodriguez does not agree to a lengthy suspension without appealing one source said MLB has threatened to suspend him for life forcing him to fight the league through arbitration. The sources did not say what length of suspension either side would accept only that the two camps "aren't anywhere close" according to one.

Alex Rodriguez - 3B - Yankees

Alex Rodriguez has a standing offer from MLB for a suspension through the end of the 2014 season.

Baseball seems intent on making an example out of A-Rod, and they reportedly have enough evidence on the slugger to banish him for more than one season, including an accusation that Rodriguez recruited other players to Biogenesis. A-Rod would lose about $34 million of the $95 million remaining on his contract if he were to go away for the 217 games between now and the end of next season. Almost every other player linked to Biogenesis is expected to accept a 50-game suspension by Sunday. If A-Rod refuses to agree to a penalty, reports have suggested that he could be banned for life from baseball. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, for one, would be surprised if commissioner Bud Selig levied the death penalty against a first-time PED offender.

The Rangers will still be on the hook for roughly $40 million in deferred payments to Alex Rodriguez if the slugger is banished for life.

The Yankees stand to save almost $100 million if A-Rod is banned from baseball, but Texas wouldn't be so fortunate. The deferred payments, scheduled to be paid from 2016-2025, will inflate to nearly $50 million by the time the debt is paid.

More power to Texas lol.
