"Right-hander Johnny Cueto was given the clearance to begin throwing on Monday.

Cueto left his Friday start after only two innings with pain in his right forearm. He was diagnosed with stiffness of the forearm and biceps. He was ordered to not throw.

Cueto was re-evaluated by team medical director Dr. Tim Kremchek Monday morning.

"It's better," Cueto said. "I'm OK. No pain."

Cueto was going to play catch Monday. He said he thinks he'll be OK to make his next start.

The Reds have made a concession there. Cueto originally was slated and pitching on the third spot in the rotation. The Reds have tentatively moved him into the fifth spot.

"If he's ready, he's ready," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "If he's not, we'll adjust. We have him in the fifth slot to back him up. (Pitching coach Bryan Price) has a plan to keep him on track.""
