And either way, the deal is currently dead anyhow. They can work past the negotiating window because the MLB Knows the significance of the player involved in the contract negotiations, but its not looking good.

No extension inked but like Baggs said, Boston is going through with the trade anyhow. Probably gonna end up inking him long-term in April -- im sure they wanna see that shoulder hold up in ST.

They'll resign him no sooner than April, my best guess. He gets his guaranteed years, big money (20+M per year), and a big market.

Red Sox can easily afford him, with big contracts ending after 2011 anyhow like Ortiz and Drew. But that's why they'll wait a few months before pulling the trigger on an extension, so they don't have to pay him $20M in 2011, making it easier for them to pursue another big free agent, like Crawford for example.

I thank most Sox fans have been too, because he's been rumored to go to Boston for almost two years now. It's about time they get this done.
