This is the best move of the offseason in my opinion and the big guys havent even signed yet. Agon goes from one of the biggest pitcher friendly parks to a hitters park in Boston. Hes a great clubhouse guy, plays excellent defense, and he has power but also great plate discipline as evidenced by the 93 walks last year. His power numbers are going to go up significantly, and then you consider the amount of protection in the lineup he is going to have and hes an instant MVP candidate.

Ive conveted this guy for a long time and for a long time I knew it was a matter of time before the Red Sox got him.

Anyone could have traded for A-Gon. It was an equal playing field so we please don't start this crying about small market teams at an unfair advantage bull<Censored>.

He's a free agent soon, why would anyone trade for him who couldn't afford him?

And prospects are prospects.. Who cares?

They actually got something instead of just losing him on the open market. This isn't your best case for the whole "big market" argument.

The whole point to it is this should not have to happen.. Trade your best player and one of the best players in the entire MLB, just to get high value before you can't re-sign him? Awesome system...

Guess what...NHL HAS a salary cap and that still happens. It will happen whether or not you have a salary cap.

I don't really know what goes on much in the NHL but I doubt it's at the alarmingly frequent rate in the MLB.. Everyone knew this deal would happen sometime in the last 2 years which is a joke..

But I guess I should stop preaching how broken the MLB is because pretty much everyone here roots for a high market team with the exception of a few people.

The Bruins had to trade away Phil Kessel last season because they couldn't afford him within the salary cap.

The Washington Capitals could lose Alex Semin (one of their best players) because they may not be able to fit him within the salary cap after this year.

The New Jersey Devils skated with the bare minimum of players (even going under the minimum) because of salary cap problems.

The Chicago Blackhawks, who won the Cup last year, had to trade away a handful of players to get under the salary cap to start the year...

How are those situations the same? They used all of their salary cap space up, so they can't sign those guys.... The Padres just can't compete with the Red Sox in a bidding war for Adrian..

man, Boston has no idea

everyone knows Adrian is a stud.
hits for average, hits for power, hits lefties, like FPS said great plate discipline plays an excellent 1B

but im telling you red sox and east coast mlb fans. just wait
sure you see the numbers, the all-star appearances, the gold gloves, wait to see him play every day
i've been lucky to see Adrian become the player he is. absolutely love him. great work ethic, awesome swing, clutch hitter, and like i said, amazing at 1st

he's going to tear down Fenway. my preseason MVP. im happy that he will now be more recognized, he deserves it

really likable player and person. hard to hate on him, even Yankee fans.

It's a nice move and big addition to the lineup but unless Boston signs a big Free Agent, I actually don't see A TON of improvement... I only view this as an upgrade after losing Victor Martinez to Free Agency. They just fill the gap they lost while getting a little improvement out of it.

I still think they need to go out and sign maybe a corner outfielder and then we can safely assess how good they can be this year.

Adrian Gonzalez is more then a "little" upgrade over V-Mart.

He's not that big of an upgrade over V-Mart AND Beltre though. So unless they get someone else near the equivalent of their talent the team hasn't improved all that much.

Moving Youk to third makes us better at the hot corner. This should give us a great corner infield duo. But I agree, we still need to go out and get a corner outfielder like Werth or Crawford, and still need an upgrade at catcher.

And yes Gonzo is a major upgrade over Beltre, and I would rather have Youk at third then Beltre, so we haven't lost much.
