The team moving forward in a retooling would need this pick.

Get another young player along side Dre, Monroe, and KCP and move whatever we can. We can't afford to lose this pick. And you never know how that pick will turn out. It's a solid draft, I'm sure we would end up with a nice piece.

I look at this draft and the fit for Detroit. Take the guys cheato brought up for example. Nik Stauskas is a guy that in the NBA could become a one dimensional spot up shooter. Which I do think the Pistons need, but with their front line of Josh Smith, Greg Monroe, and Andre Drummond, adding another spot up shooter will only do so much. It's not even to positively impact the Pistons offense through ninety eight possessions a game. Defensively, you can't pair him with Brandon Jennings in the back court, you can't have two defensive liabilities playing along side each other. Will Stauskas ever be JJ Redick, or even Kyle Korver? I don't think so. You also have other guys like Gary Harris and Rodney Hood, and I really like Harris, but you mentioned Caldwell-Pope in your post, would Detroit go the same route as they did last season, and select another two guard?

Another guy is Aaron Gordon. Forget how he fits with Detroit for a second, how does he fit in the NBA? Is he a three? If you try to play him there, I believe he will struggle, but is he a four? He's undersized, lacks length, and lacks strength. He really needs to improve on the defensive boards, as he's not really anything special there either. He doesn't have a post game, he can't shoot, he doesn't have great touch, doesn't have a off hand, and can't shoot free throws. His frame is also pretty narrow so it's a question how much room he really even has to grow. You look at these tweeners like Michael Beasley, Derrick Williams, Jeff Green, Thaddeus Young, and so on and I think whether or not he has a position in the league or not is an even bigger question mark than those guys. I would look at him as a player who would compound the problem, more than resolving it or helping it.

How does Clint Capela add another element or dimension to the Pistons? He's another guy who lacks any offensive game, no post game, no jump shot, can't shoot free throws. Has a low IQ, turns the ball over a lot, and so on. I'm not even sure if I would touch Capela personally, has he officially declared? He's not even remotely ready for the league from what I've seen. Noah Vonleh is a guy I really like, but I'm not sold that he'll be available at eight. And honestly, speaking of front court players, where do they really fit as the eight pick when Smith, Monroe, and Drummond take up over 70% of the available minutes, and I'd bet that will only increase in the coming years as Drummond is at just thirty two minutes a night. That's a lot of minutes a night already. Indy's front court takes up 67% of their minutes, for comparisons sake.

After that you're left looking at guys like Dario Saric, Doug McDermott, Tyler Ennis, Montrezl Harrel, Willie Cauley-Stein, and so on. How many of these guys I've talked about really move the needle? Do any of them? If anything I'd hope to move up in the lottery (obviously) or move back and try to draft some sort of specialist.

I understand where you are coming from but it has no basis. You're basically saying no one fits on their roster so they shouldn't care about their pick and shouldn't for the foreseeable future.

Also, you're not passing guys because you already have KCP.

Regardless of your roster set up and front office, having a lottery pick is more valuable than not having it.

Also, the likely hood that they have the same roster as next year is slim to none.

Never said that. In fact, I blatantly said I would be looking to move back if they didn't win the lottery. That alone shows they should care about the pick. I never said not having the pick is more valuable either. Not entirely sure how you came to any of those conclusions, but whatever.

And the roster will be different, but the core is likely to remain the same. You are unlikely to find someone to move Smith too, and I do believe Monroe will remain a Piston. That is what matters, their core remains intact, not whether some guy who doesn't move the needle is replaced with someone else who doesn't move the needle.

I came to the conclusion because you made this post breaking down how no one fits their roster and have been preaching for days about the Pistons and that pick.

Id be surprised if Monroe is a Piston next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Smith dealt to a desperate team who strikes out in free agency either.

They're stuck with Jennings though

i wouldn't even say we're "stuck" with brandon. he only has two more years here, and next year his contract would be a valuable expiring.

Been preaching that they shouldn't want that pick?

Didn't think so.

Not in so many words, but definitely implied Rip should want the Pistons to beat the 6ers instead of improving odds at maintaining one of their few assets

Come on cheato, you're a hell of a lot smarter than that.

When I said the Pistons should beat the 6ers instead of losing to improve their odds, and I still stand behind that, in no way did I imply that they need to win out and lose that pick for the betterment of the long term future of that franchise.
