The Detroit Pistons have fired coach Mo Cheeks, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.
11:57am - 9 Feb 14

Owner Tom Gores had become increasingly impatient with Cheeks and young Pistons team, league sources told Yahoo. He had pushed for change.

Wow, maybe Cheeks wasn't getting the job done but this looks HORRIBLE on the Pistons part. To fire a head coach a little more than halfway through his first season? Really really bad.

not to mention we have to pay him, and frank, and i think we're still on the hook for another one of our horrible hirings.

*waits for rip to say hire hollins.

why the fuck would any, ANY competent head coach want to come here?

Certainly happy with this. This team shouldn't be as bad as they are. Cheeks has seemed completely disinterested since he got here.

Was not expecting this at all though.

no one told the players because no one knew it'd happen.

hopefully dumars is next, as this came straight from tom gores.

Yeah no kidding. If they are going to do this to Cheeks mid season, how the flying fuck does Dumars get another pass. It's truly remarkable if he doesn't get fired.

We are expected to pursue Lionel Hollins. Sweet.

Maybe Gores will fire Dumars first.
The only way any real coach would come here would be under a new GM.

He has to be done. Owners do not fire coaches like that. Dumars has essentially lost his power.

Would be funny if we hire Hollins now. Was the right guy for the job the whole fucking time and we could have signed him over Cheeks.

Matt Dery says many players are happy, as Cheeks lost the locker room when the season started.

Also being reported that Hollins IS interested in the job.

better to do it now then prolong it

And firing a GM usually doesn't happen mid season, Grant was an exception

Not a fan of Hollins either. He hates anything that resembles a stat and players grow tired of him
