The Detroit Pistons could extend Andre Drummond on a maximum salary contract in the offseason and already view the center as worthy of that deal.

"Andre's a maximum guy," Tom Gores said. "He's a maximum guy. He's not only a great player, he's a great person."

Drummond could sign an extension through 2020 or 2021.

"I'm just here to play basketball. I'll let all of that deal with itself," Drummond said.

duh. i don't really think he is a max player on the court, yet, but we need to do what we need to do. id wait until we can't anymore to sign him though. build up the best we can and then commit. he knows he's getting that cheddar.

Once the new cap kicks in it won't be a salary deal anyway. But like we talked about, I'm shocked at how the guy really hasn't improved since entering the league. Is there really anything he has improved at?

he's a lot more vocal, doesn't show up on the chart but that's huge.

I certainly think he has put work into his post game. His first couple of seasons he scored only off garbage points. Whereas now we dump it to him and let him try to score. He isn't good down there by any means, but it's a start.

So to answer your question, maybe not. But he is putting the work in to become better. He's still so raw.

I think it's unfair to really have that hard a stance on Drummond's lack of improvement. He is still super young. He declared for college a year earlier than anticipated, and then left college with nothing that resembled a post move, and to be honest he was in a horrible situation for what he needed. I don't think many expected Drummond to have the kind of rookie season he did, so the expectations have gotten a little out of hand

It's going to take some time for him, every player has a different growth pattern

he should have shown more progression but finally being in his first real system so i have more hope going forward but the next year he has to show some more. still our franchise guy so i do have faith in him.

Yes, I mean not to be a dick but I don't think of a guy going from horrendous to horrible in the post is really "improvement." He's one of three players in the entire league with 150 or more post up opportunities to average less than .70 points per possession. Other two being Noel and Faried.

I think Drummond is what he is, personally. Would be shocked if he ever TRULY improved.

I get where Dan is coming from, but I don't think it applies here, he really is the same player he was his rookie year. Shown little improvement over three years. If he hasn't improved after three years, I seriously doubt it's going to just all of a sudden get better. Maybe I'm wrong, because we have seen it before, but those situations are the exception.

He's fucking 21 dude, to assume he will never "truly" improve is absolutely ludacris, regardless of what your defintion of "truly improving" is. There's players that will be drafted this year who are older than him.

being 21 and obviously very young is one thing but the more important thing is he's going on his forth year in the league. that's more important.

like i said, im more excited to see how he does this offseason and going into next year because this is his first real system he's in for the longterm. now it's important he puts the time in to improve, and the team has to get the right guys around him.

This. Not much you can really do when you coaches and staff change every season. Now under SVG and crew this give him time to Shape up or ship out.

Yes again, historically age has rarely been the determining factor in a players improvement. You don't hear "the big jump comes between the ages of 21 and 22," the real truth is players see a rise in production between their second and third years in the league. Or something of that nature.

There's still things Drummond will improve on, I know me and Rob often talk about how his numbers may be great defensively but he really isn't a great defender. He will improve his help defense, his instincts, etc. But if going into his fourth year in the league and he's still one of the worst post players in the league, why would anyone assume he's going to all of a sudden get substantially better?

im only holding hope because once he gets the right shooters and floor spacers around him, he will be able to really shoe us what he's worth. he won't have to have the great footwork if we can give it to him deep enough and have him holly his way for a dunk and quick hook. that's another thing too, his size, he doesn't seem to be overly strong. that has to do with him being young, he needs to learn how strong he actually is. it sucks that i have to be so hard on him knowing he's our max player but i am and i hope the little things start to click for him.

If you care, it'd be extremely frustrating. if you're in it for a check, who cares lol.
