Brandon Jennings in entering his sixth NBA season, and has started in 370 of his 373 regular season appearances.
His position in the opening tip lineup, however, which was once completely solidified, may now be on shaky ground due to having a new head coach in place, a capable guard playing behind him, and a couple of personally shaky performances.

From Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:

Van Gundy has turned to backup point guard D.J. Augustin for a majority of minutes in the first two games of the 0-2 start.
And it’s obvious that Van Gundy’s decision-making process is bothering Jennings.
When told that Van Gundy said that Augustin has been the better point guard the first two games, Jennings quietly said: “Then he should start and I’ll be the backup, if that’s the case.”
And with that Jennings added: “That’s all I’ve got.”
He then walked away from reporters.

Jennings has historically worn his heart on his sleeve, so this response here shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. He takes pride in his game and is one of those players who truly appreciates playing at the professional level, so any type of demotion wouldn’t be too well-received.
It’s only been two games, but Augustin has outplayed Jennings when he’s gotten the chance. Jennings is averaging just four points, three rebounds and four assists in 17.5 minutes per contest, while Augustin is at 17.5, 4.5 and 4.5 in 30.5 minutes off the bench.
Head coaches will tell you that the players that start the game don’t matter that much; it’s the ones who finish it. It seems a little early to yank Jennings after just two games, but Van Gundy won’t hesitate for a second to do so if he feels that would ultimately give his team a better chance of winning on a consistent basis.
Handling Jennings and the emotional fallout from that decision (if it happens) would be Van Gundy’s first major test in his new role with the Pistons.

Do people forget how ticked off Dwight was in Orlando with SVG? All you Pistons fans acted like Van Gundy was going to solve everything for you guys, but he always creates a chemistry issue somehow

Yep, Jennings isn't the only one who wears his heart on his sleeve too much.

i don't think many of us thought he qas going to solve our issues, not now anyways. the roster is still a mess and honestly, his moves didn't help. mainly the meeks signing.

He wasn't going to solve the issues immediately, but he's the best hire the Pistons could have hoped for and this team will improve under him. He's dealing with a lot of losing players with flawed skill sets and mind sets. He has to deal with the guys that are here and take it one step at a time. I'd bet that only three or four of the guys on the roster today will be on the opening night roster in two seasons.

I think it's a mistake to call the Meeks signing bad right now. The guy got hurt and we don't know what he will be here once he can contribute.

I also think it's an exercise in futility to respond to stupid people who make incredibly stupid posts. I'd elaborate, but I'd get banned. Again. Because I'd be tattle taled on.

meeks was bad because we didn't need to spend that much money on him. he doesn't deserve that much because he's not going to be a game changer for us.

He's making just over 6 million per year. Last season he played 77 games and was 15+ ppg on 46% from the floor and 40% from 3. That's probably the best season he'll ever have, but if he can ever come close to that, he's a plus player. It's not a bad gamble from a team that is completely devoid of wing players.

Really not worried about us at the moment. Get back to me in a month or so and we can assess then.
As for Jennings, he responded with his best game of the season. Maybe he got the hint he has to earn his way into the starting lineup. Stan called him out, and he responded. See really no issue with this.
