His request for reinstatement was denied. Should he be in the Hall of Fame?

Complete bullshit that he's not in the Hall. We have crooks, felons, and other dirty players in there already.

If Pete's gambling on baseball as a manager isn't enough to erase his 4,256 career hits, then he shouldn't be kept from the Hall. Whether it be gambling or PED use, these guys are no different from those who have scuffed up baseballs in the 60's or played games high on speed during the 70's. Breaking rules is breaking rules and I cannot stand the age-old double standards of MLB. The Hall of Fame is about preserving the history of the game and that includes the controversy.

I respect Manfred for having the balls to address the issue quick and direct but I think it's time to put Bart Giamatti's example to rest. And what the hell does Pete's continuing to gamble on baseball at 74 years old have anything to do with the past?

I get tired of old players that cheated being allowed access. Gaylord Perry not only has addressed and confirmed it, he EMBRACES the fact that he used Spitballs and cheated.

Manfred was it a though spot and he can't accepet it if he doesn't want a huge PR hit. Pete Rose was one of the best to every play the game. The all time leader in hits, all-star and multiple positions, hitting from both sides of the plate. There are probably people who's crimes and faults are worse than Rose's and they are in the hall. I believe you should be voted into the Hall of Fame for what you did on the field. He didn't use PED's or anything like that.

However, since being banned from baseball in '89, he's done nothing to change who he is. He still do this day gambles on baseball games, etc. Maybe if he attempted to change his way of life since the banishment, he would be reinstated.

I still think he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame but understand the decision to not allow it. He'll be in once he's passed away, sad that one of the game's greats won't be in attendance at his own Hall of Fame induction.

He did change his life, his gambling is greatly greatly reduced as he explained in his press conference. I actually understand not being allowed back into baseball since he hasn't shown he can let gambling go entirely so you wouldn't want to risk him being a coach and still not being able to let it go, but he should be allowed in the Hall - and like Manfred said that is a completely different consideration than his ban on being a part of baseball being overturned

He's going to be inducted into the Reds hall of fame. Just read about it via Twitter.

Good. his number is going to be retired as well. Now he needs to get into the real Hall of Fame where he belongs.

The Hall of Fame is a baseball museum. Rose needs to have a plaque there, as do Bonds and Clemens. The inscriptions can explain what they did, but their accomplishments need to be recognized.
I just hope baseball figures this out to honor these guys while they are still alive. Maybe they can go in together in a special ceremony?

I always thought it was appropriate to just put an asterisk or whatever on the plaque, but still allow them access.

He should be in the Hall but never allowed to coach or manage a team again!

Rick, I cannot see any harm in Pete Rose instructing minor league infielders for a month in spring training. He would have to come clean and read Rule 21 each year, of course.
