For not wanting to give up a more valuable asset?

Please.

Hardly more valuable. Your team has enough scoring. Why not add a defensive center?

Because they have a guy who can do the same thing, is better at defense, can stretch the floor, has a working offensive game, and is their centerpiece of the team

I thought they were adamant about not playing Davis at center.

Last season.

And it doesn't have anything to do with scoring, you need floor spacing as well, and Anderson is one of the best (if not the best) in the league.

Well, your Pelicans can get better or not. Having him would make them better.

Not necessarily. There's a reason the report said the Pels would need more than just Asik back.

The Pelicans roster is made up of guys like Gordon, Jrue, Tyreke, and even Davis and Aminu. Guys who's games are largely made up of what they can do in the paint. That's why a guy like Anderson is more of an asset. The floor spacer who gives those guys room to operate.

You can find guys like Asik, maybe guys that aren't as good defensively but you can definitely find them. Guys like Anderson are much more rare. Look at the Pels bigs. Davis, Anderson, Smith, Thomas, and even Lopez last year. All guys who can pull their man away from the basket and make our guards lives easier. Where as a guy like Asik has no game away from the rim and would pull defenders towards the rim, not away from it.

And honestly, Asik is kind of overrated.

In what sense? The general NBA fan still has no idea who he is. He can play the pick and roll game away from the basket, which is how Houston allowed guys like Harden, Lin, and Parsons slashing lanes. He's still underrated, imo. Also, there's no replacing a guy who rebounds like Asik does.

Because people view him as some elite defender, which he isn't.

And you can fill one guy's rebounding with good sound team rebounding. Like the Pels for example, they put one of the worst rebounding centers in the game on the floor for heavy minutes last season but were still the 6th best team in rebounding last year because they did it across the board. Davis was one of the best rebounding 4's last season, Aminu was one of the best (if not the best) rebounding SF in the league last year, Vasquez gave great rebounding from the PG position, and they brought some guys off the bench that were solid.

Although Omer Asik has formally requested a trade, the Houston Rockets have no plans to grant his wish, according to sources.
Shortly after Dwight Howard committed to signing with the Rockets, Asik requested a trade from Houston.
The Rockets have turned down offers and plan to continue doing so.
"With Omer, he had a great year for us last year and really became one of the top centers in the league," Kevin McHale said. "It's just when you have an opportunity to get Dwight, it's hard not to. I'm sure Omer right now is a little down in the dumps, but we'll pick him up."

It's stupid to pay him 8M to be a backup. I'm sure this is just a play on their part because they aren't getting offers they are happy with.

It certainly doesn't feel like a long term solution you're happy with, if you're Houston.

i liked the idea of this nola/hou trade. they need to look for another floor spacer in a deal.

Like I said, I'd do it but I would sell high on Ryno. And by the time I presented what I wanted Houston would decline and I'd just go back being thrilled to have the top stretch four in the league.

It 100% has to do with them not being happy with the offers they're getting. He can't play with Dwight, at all. They aren't going to pay his salary to play less than 15 mins a game.

They lost all leverage in deals involving him when they signed Dwight. It would have been a risk, but if they wanted full value they should have dealt him before they signed Dwight.
