My friends sister is starting up an educational consulting firm and she reached out to me to do her website and logo/branding. This is a quick idea I came up with for the logo. The "i" in the whitespace connects the "P" and the "L" to represent the relationship between her and her clients. The colors are meant to show education in a fun light.

This is just the first concept and there will likely be more unless she falls in love with it so I'll update this thread as the project develops.

Agreed with Pugz, resembles more of an FL right now.

Maybe you could take advantage of the negative space in the "P" to make the "i".

Why not do a 3D effect kind of thing where the P is behind the L? So it the rest of the P shows to the right of the L

That's cool, have you tried doing the 3d?
Yeah, I didn't like what it did to the "i" in the negative space :/ I think the version above works pretty well.

It's not recognizable as an "I" anymore though, if that's what you're going for.

How about now? I rounded all the corners of the "i"

The i is too forced of a concept. You see P, then L. And unless you are looking for it, you don't see the i. I guarantee you nobody would have noticed had you not mentioned it.

Either way, whether you do realize the i or not, it is still after you realize the L. It's PIL, not PLI

That's okay if people don't notice the "i" right away. The main concept is the connection between the P (partners) and L (learning) which is unmistakable. I said it on bsx, but most people don't see the arrow in the FedEx logo or the "31" (for their 31 flavors) in the Baskin Robbins logo right away, either... if even at all. The important factor in a logo or branding for that matter is leaving an impression. You want people to remember it and you want people to remember you. Little easter eggs like that are rewarding to people and they'll be more likely to remember you for it.

You're correct that the "i" will almost always be seen last, but people still read from left to right so when they see the "i" it will read P-i-L.

Lol that's the point of utilizing negative space. This is genius dude. I do like it better rounded though

I think it's a clever idea, but execution wise, it could be improved a bit. The "i" in negative space seems too short, and it feels a little off if you get what I'm saying (if not I could explain in more detail).

I could see making the "i" taller. What else were you thinking, though... that's why I posted here :)

Mainly the little things, like on the "L", the part extending horizontally is not as thick as the part extending vertically. Just the minor inconsistencies like that. With that being said, however, I really like the clever idea.

Some additional concepts:
• more playful version of the original concept
• a book concept
• and an interpretation of what a childrens hand-shake would be like. hand-prints overlapping.
• also experimented with more color combos but the blue/yellow/green is the strongest imo

i dont think the hands can stand alone. if combined with any of the other designs i believe you could have a logo along with a watermark type thing for business cards/stationary etc. i think the blue yellow green is the strongest colorway as well
