The Indiana Pacers are finalizing a deal to promote assistant Nate McMillan to head coach, league sources tell @TheVertical.

So they fire Vogel...and then promote Nate??? LMFAO. This is the same Nate McMillan that ran this slow-ass offense that kept Brandon Roy from leading the league in scoring at the time. The same Nate McMillan who lost the locker room in Portland. F'ing Portland!

I said it at the time, but I had to laugh at the fact that Bird doesn't sign Vogel to a new deal after Vogel overachieved with that underwhelming roster Bird put together.

Yeah we had a thread up before the merge about them firing Vogel. Extremely dumb on their part. Bird wanted to go in a "new direction" and a "faster pace" so he gets someone within the organization that does the opposite. Completely idiotic move on their part. The Pacers overachieved with their roster last year and Bird failed to realize that.

I think this is very obvious that Bird wants Paul George to play the 4, McMillan wants him to play the 4, and Vogel didn't. This way, offensive strategy stays the same, so there isn't a learning curve for the players, and PG plays the 4 like Bird wants him to

George doesn't want to play the four, which may be the most important thing. Not to mention his least impact was at PF, where he was actually a negative.

I don't disagree in the slightest

I'm just trying to rationalize this move. Bird definitely was pushing for Paul to play the 4 last summer

yeah I actually think McMillan can be a decent coach but if the GM wants to play small/fast he's the absolutely wrong hire

Wow truly thought they would sign scott skiles. Dont get with teams downgrading. Why get rid of a good coach and then replace him with a shittier coach lol cough cough the chicago bulls smh

We'll see if Mac has grown as a coach or if Larry Bird just made the worst move in Pacers history.

Worst day in Indiana since the Ohio River flood of 1937.
