Giants DE Osi Umenyiora suffered serious ligament damage last night against the Jets and will be forced to undergo surgery, which will probably knock him out for the entire season.

Much more on this to come.

2:23 p.m. UPDATE From what I gather, there was some talk about whether to do the short-term rehab or the surgery. In the end, they opted for surgery to make sure Umenyiora will be better off in the long run.
That's a huge blow to the Giants defense, especially when Strahan wouldn't be there either.

Mathias Kiwanuka time... :(

If the Lions were in this situation, then yes. The Giants found ways to have a great defense last year without lots of big names.

But they weren't even a high seed last year. I really don't see it.

You turn the tables without anyone saying anything about the Lions or Jets? Great debating.

Still better than most DL's in the NFL. We'll be fine, Umenyiora would've made things much easier. But the Giants will still pull through, it's their division to lose.

Dude, I'm not saying anything about your superbowl run. I just think it's stupid that you think that it's the Giants' division to lose. That makes noooo sense because you couldn't even win it with your team last year which was deff better than what you have right now. Plus, the eagles are gonna be better this year too. Sure, you guys are the superbowl champs right now, but you guys don't even look like your gonna be any better than a 7 or 8 seed in the NFC.

Excuse me? You guys are the team that lost your big players (Shockey, Strahan, and Osi), and we're the team thats on the rise right now... so I don't know what the hell you're thinking. =\

So losing Umenyiora drops us to a 7-8 win team? If it was an Eli, Jacobs or Burress I'd understand. But our depth at DL is superior to nearly every team in the league.

You guys were a 9-7 team at BEST with Osi.
