Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is talking to teams about guard Jerry Stackhouse, and admits that he is willing to take on salary in a trade as long as it's nothing crazy.

"We're opportunistic," Cuban said. "We'll take on money. We just won't do anything crazy."

However, it is becoming more and more likely that the Mavericks will stand pat this season.

"Our approach has stayed the same," Cuban said. "We try to be the guys who were willing to pull the trigger, as opposed to hemming and hawing, but the deals weren't there. Everyone knows what they want to do at this point. It's more a question of, does someone give up or does someone get extra excited? We'll see."

The Nets have been unable to land a substantial piece in a trade for guard Vince Carter, according to numerous general managers.

Dallas isn't willing to deal Josh Howard for Carter, while Houston won't give up Shane Battier.

Richard Jefferson has been a hot commodity on the trade market this week, but the Bucks aren't expected to deal him unless they receive talent in return.

Milwaukee is still in the playoff hunt despite all their injuries, and that has affected their willingness to deal Jefferson.

The Suns and Grizzlies were still discussing an Amare Stoudemire trade on Wednesday.

Phoenix was trying to acquire Rudy Gay, Hakim Warrick, Mike Conley and a 2009 first-round pick for Stoudemire.

Memphis declined the Suns' attempts again.

Trade talks between the Suns and Cavaliers reached a point of such seriousness that Cleveland gathered a "committee" of veterans to gauge how they would feel about acquiring Amare Stoudemire.

Phoenix reportedly received better offers than what Cleveland was willing to offer.

The Amare to Memphis is crazy, I'd do it if I didn't have to give up the 1st.. But I also wouldn't ask for the 1st on the Suns behalf..

Yea but outside of Rudy Mike and OJ they don't have much, maybe Mike the 1st and Hammed and Hakim? Hell maybe even add another pick.

I would try to get Amare while keeping OJ and Rudy, that'd be a sick ass trio.

The Knicks are close to agreeing to trades that could land them forward Chris Wilcox and guard Larry Hughes, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

The acquisitions would come in two separate trades.

New York would reportedly send Malik Rose to Oklahoma City for Wilcox, and Tim Thomas, Jerome James and Anthony Roberson to Chicago for Hughes.

One of the most intriguing deals discussed on deadline day has to be Andres Nocioni winding up with the defending champs.

It's unclear, as the final half-hour before the trade buzzer ticks away, which team actually halted these discussions. We've heard conflicting claims from both teams on who withdrew first.

Yet we do have agreement that the Celtics and Kings talked seriously Thursday about sending Nocioni to the Celts, which seemingly would have been a huge coup for Boston given the hole created by James Posey's departure in the offseason. Nocioni is a rugged, versatile, two-position forward who does a lot of the same stuff.

The deal likely would have required Boston to part with at least four players from its oft-criticized bench: Glen Davis, Brian Scalabrine, Patrick O'Bryant and the injured Tony Allen. Sacramento can only move Nocioni on his own after acquiring him only Wednesday in the Brad Miller/John Salmons deal with Chicago, since players can't be packaged in subsequent deals until 60 days have passed after being traded.

It would figure that the length and cost of Nocioni's contract are what gave the Celtics pause, since Nocioni has three guaranteed years worth more than $20 million left on his deal after this season. That's more money in the same span than Posey will earn from the Hornets, who were able to sign Posey because the Celtics deemed a four-year guaranteed contract too rich to match.

But it must have been tough for the Celts to resist -- if they indeed balked first -- because Nocioni could have filled such a big need.

Could the Knicks make three deals today? Sources say the Kings have offered Kenny Thomas for Nate Robinson and Jared Jeffries. If the Knicks could move Jeffries, it would clear another $6.8 million in the summer of 2010.

The Knicks would have to give up the talented Robinson and eat Thomas' $8.7 million salary next year ... but it's probably worth it to the Knicks. Especially now that they've shored up their offense with the deals for Larry Hughes and Chris Wilcox.

The Chicago Bulls have re-acquired Tim Thomas, and once again from the New York Knicks.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the Bulls have sent Larry Hughes to New York in exchange for Thomas, Jerome James and Anthony Roberson.

Thomas had previously been traded from New York to Chicago as part of the Eddy Curry trade, but that did not turn out too well for either side, with Thomas asked to stay away until the Bulls finally bought out his contract.

A source has told David Aldridge that there have been Thursday discussions between the Sixers and Blazers centered on Andre Miller.

The deal would involve the expiring contract of Blazers center Raef LaFrentz and another Portland guard in exchange for Miller and forward Reggie Evans.

Philadelphia wants Jerryd Bayless, and the Blazers have made the rookie guard next to untouchable. Portland would be more open to completing a deal, the source said, to include a guard like Steve Blake or Sergio Rodriguez.

The trade might be resurrected if the Grizzlies were involved and sent guard Kyle Lowry to Philadelphia.

The surprise rumor of the trade deadline so far has been the Indiana Pacers' interest in Hornet center Tyson Chandler, Ian Thomsen of Sports Illustrated is reporting.

The Pacers could offer a combination of expiring contracts attached to center Rasho Nesterovic ($8.4 million), forward Marquis Daniels ($6.8 million) and point guard Jarrett Jack ($2 million), in addition to center Jeff Foster.

The Celtics have traded center Patrick O'Bryant to the Sacramento Kings.

According to an NBA source, the move was made for salary cap reasons and Boston will not get a player in return.

The Denver Nuggets are reportedly shopping their first round pick they received from Charlotte last June for to the Pacers' Jeff Foster, the Knicks' David Lee or the Bulls' Joakim Noah, Ian Thomsen from Sports Illustrated is reporting.

So far there have been no takers.
