Duncan Keith over Joe Thornton you're fucking crazy lol
Bryzy and Keith have been good but I wouldn't put them ahead of Sedin and Gaborik and probably not even VokounFor this year, not in order.
Miller
Crosby
Ovechkin
Stamkos
Parise
Kieth
Bryzgolov
Sedin
Gaborik
Vokoun
I would have Miller winning it.
Maxim Lapierre was suspended for 4 games about a week ago for pretty much the exact same hit as Ovechkin's...The Ovechkin hit was uncalled for I'm not gonna not admit it but if Ovechkin gets in anymore trouble I'm going to be pissed. Because you're sending a message that Matt Cooke is more important than Alexander Ovechkin.
lol so much for ratings in this game losing the games biggest star. Whatever. WE're still the best team in the NHL
I said not in order :SBryzy and Keith have been good but I wouldn't put them ahead of Sedin and Gaborik and probably not even Vokoun
I wouldn't say it was pretty much the exact same, it was similar but Lapierre had much more time to think about it.Maxim Lapierre was suspended for 4 games about a week ago for pretty much the exact same hit as Ovechkin's...
They looked pretty much the exact same to me.I wouldn't say it was pretty much the exact same, it was similar but Lapierre had much more time to think about it.
To be fair Nichol was skating straight at the boards, Campbell was skating almost parallel to them. They looked pretty much the exact same to me.
^Can we stop ignoring those incidents? That is way too much to ignore IMOThis will likely result in his second suspension this season. He could have gotten one for that hit on Briere a few years ago and the one on Kaleta in November. He blind-sided Dustin Brown away from the play a few years back. Jamie Heward got stretchered off the ice after Ovie hit him from behind. He slew-footed Rich Peverley in October. He's hit Wideman (no video, but here's an article), Gonchar and Gleason knee-to-knee. He shot a puck at Rob Scuderi after the whistle.
Any one, two or even three of those incidents could have been dismissed as Ovechkin's ability to play dominant physical hockey getting a little out of control or maybe emotion getting the best of him. But add up all those incidents. There are nine of them in just a few years, with the majority happening either this season or last.
There's a clear pattern developing.
The league is taxin on Ovechkin <3But it's the Washington Capitals star's third game misconduct of the season and his second for boarding; his first coming against Patrick Kaleta(notes) of the Buffalo Sabres back on Nov. 25.
Rule 23.5 of the NHL rulebook states: "Any player or goalkeeper who incurs a total of two (2) game misconduct penalties for stick-related infractions, Boarding - Rule 42, or Checking from Behind - Rule 44, shall be suspended automatically for the next league game of his team."
Ah, but what about the fine print? Puck Daddy's Sean Leahy points to this passage further down in the Rule 23.5 statute:
When a player or goalkeeper has played in 41 consecutive regular League games without being assessed a boarding and/or a checking from behind major and a game misconduct according to Rules 42 and 44, he will have the previous game misconduct penalties removed from his current record. They will remain part of his historical record.
Sunday's game against the Blackhawks for Ovechkin? Game No. 42 since the Kaleta hit. Who knew the NHL had time off for good behavior?
Timing is everything: No auto suspension as many (including ourselves) figured; and keep in mind the Tim Gleason(notes) knee-on-knee hit/game misconduct for Ovechkin isn't factored in here -- just the boarding ones. They're considered separate categories.
Meanwhile, that's a hell of a win by the Capitals without Ovechkin, 4-3 in overtime after rallying from a 3-0 hole. It's also the second straight blown third period lead for one of the best defensive teams in hockey.
pretty muchTo be fair Nichol was skating straight at the boards, Campbell was skating almost parallel to them.
Not saying the hit wasn't dirty, but the Lapierre hit was just a really dumb thing to do where as the Ovechkin one could have been clean if he did it when he was a bit closer to the boards.
Thanks to the Canucks <3Flames lost last night <3
Actually watched a bit of the game too.
Wings NEED to get the win tonight against the Flames though, huge game.
