Moving down to get Larry Sanders seems kind of pointless to me, even if it's only 2 spots.

Chad Ford ‏@chadfordinsider

Terrence Ross in Cleveland for last minute workout tomorrow. He's not in mix at 4. He's not on board at 24. Interesting. He is a good fit.

Chad Ford:

Davis passes the NBA scout test, too. There isn't an NBA scout or NBA GM in the league who doesn't have him No. 1 on his board. I'll take it a step further. Every GM and scout I spoke with told me he'd take Davis No. 1 in the 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008 drafts. Yes, ahead of Derrick Rose, Blake Griffin, John Wall and Kyrie Irving.

I think 4,2 and 1 are the only true mistakes.
Kobe was a great prospect but we can only say he should have been number 1 with hindsight. There were players who looked better then he did in that draft. Same with Marvin Williams, Marvin was a beast in camps and in the NCAA.
The rest are dumb.
Portland taking Oden over Durant was a huge mistake and they were told this.
Detroit picking Darko... not sure why.
Actually you know what, the MJ thing was in hindsight too. When he was drafted guards were secondary because you absolutely needed 2 or 3 big time big men to contend. I cant blame them for that one at the time.
The people who actually checked Oden, his past, his past injuries, his abilities, his reports knew damn well that guy was not going to pan out. When you actually look at all that information you should come to the conclusion that had he not been injured time and time again, the best he would have been is a rich mans sammy D. Which would be a great center, but people thought he was going to be Duncan or Shaq, which was stupid.
MY REPLY
youre a moron. players with the size and potential oden had dont come along often. he was looking like he would have been a force. dude didnt have knee injuries UNTIL he came in the league. he had a wrist injury that forced him to learn how to use his LEFT hand. that made him more valuable.

nothing can justify taking marvin over deron or cp3..NOTHING. that was a HUGE mistake. though marvin did look like he would have a solid career. he just didnt pan out, but hes still not bad. just looks like a bust because he was drafted so damn high.

darko was drafted out of need, joe dumars was in love with what he could have been and didnt listen to our scouts. they told him darko would need a lot of work and could be a star one day. they didnt advise him taking darko but the owner and joe did. that was clearly all on joe dumars.
Really? We dont see at least one big man a year who is capable of 20-10 being added to the NBA?

1. Knee injury or not, the guy was injury prone. This tends to happen with people who grow really really really quickly, which he did. So yes, before the draft people who bothered reading scouting reports and looking into his past, knew he would be injury prone.

2. His college play was impressive at times but it showed he simply used his size to overtake people, not his skill. There was only 2 or 3 games that entire year where Ohio State played a team with a good big man and Oden put up a solid game.

3. His "potential" was to completely learn the game of basketball. The guy had low fundamentals, bad foot work, could barely play over 20 minutes and for his size failed to nab the rebounds he should have been getting. But again, that was due to his fundamentals. Even if this guys maximum potential was what you suggest, it would have taken him 6-8 years to get there.

Yea, it can. When youre looking at it with hindsight then you have perfect 20/20 and your evaluation is rather useless. Fact is Marvin was one of the most athletic, talented and sound players going into that draft and its amazing he fell as far as he did.
This was a bad pick but only with hindsight. Which at least 50% of people cannot say about the Oden/Durant thing. That pick had to do with people being morons about 7 footers and using the "duhhh well ESPN says that big men like this only come around once every 10 years", while they completely ignore the 2,3,4,5 20-10 6'10/11 guys added every two years.
Oden was athletic? The guy had what, 5 games in college that he was able to play over 24 minutes? He sat the rest of the game because his body was worn out. That is not athletic dude. The point of athleticism is to maintain a steady high rate of speed and ability.
Did you even watch this guy? Have you actually bothered reading his scouting reports? No, fuck no. I can tell you have not because you are just spouting out the same stupid shit that dumb fucking 50%-fans said when he was drafted. Why dont you read his scouting reports and you will actually find out that everything i said is true.
People KNEW Oden would be injury prone. There were many scouting reports done where people questioned his ability to stay healthy long term. They did this because of how quickly he grew in such a short period of time and we all know that when a person does this and play sports, they are very prone to injuries. And it showed, hand and arm injuries in high school, foot and hand injuries in college. This is what happens when your body does not have time to build muscle and tendons properly, the Blazers knew this as it was in numerous scouting reports and they decided to ignore it. So yes, when you are talking about passing up on a guy like Durant for the risk of Oden (you really have to shove a lot of shit aside to think this person was not a risk coming out of ncaa ball) was not only a mistake, but utterly retarded and will probably stack up there with the 84 decision when all is said and done.
RESPONSE FROM ME
so anthony davis going to be injury prone then? and he shouldnt be drafted number 1..
I dunno, did he sprout up a foot and a half in a little over a year?
If he did, maybe, the risk of injury is WAY higher for people who grow like this.

Wont matter, Davis is nothing more then a glorified Brandon Wright. MKG should be the real overall number 1.
thats all im posting, just skim.
