I can't believe HFBoards actually removed that thread. What a bunch of homos. Who cares the legitimacy of the rumor...half the rumors that are sourced, turn out to be bullshit. That thread was like 5 pages of activity.

Now that's an Admin full of socialists.

Now the Habs appear to be interested in Phillips

Bob Mackenzie on 990 this morning...

said Montreal could(not will) but could be interested in Chris Phillips and he said it would be a perfect fit and that Montreal would be a place where Phillips would like to go. He also mentioned that if it would happen(the trade) he could see Montreal wanting to sign Phillips and that it's a possibility given Montreal's proximity to Ottawa.

Bruins also could be moving Stuart

Hockey sources here indicated to CSNNE.com that there’s strong interest on the trade front in defenseman Mark Stuart, and that dealing the rugged defenseman might be an option for the Bruins over the next four weeks if the team needs to clear salary cap space for a roster move.

Sabres

Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier last week said he hopes to ship out some veterans by the February 28th trade deadline, which could mean forwards Tim Connolly, Rob Niedermayer and Mike Grier along with defensemen Steve Montador and Craig Rivet could be trade candidates.
Senators

Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray is also expected to be busy as only Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and Erik Karlsson are considered untouchable.
Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke meanwhile expects to hear from Tomas Kaberle’s agent this week if the defenseman will decide to waive his “no-trade” clause, but if Kaberle is willing to move he’d likely only accept a move to two or three Eastern Conference teams, which rules out peddling him to San Jose for young forward Devin Setoguchi. A more likely trade candidate for the Leafs could be blueliner Francois Beauchemin, who has a partial “no-trade” clause. Burke is said to have a list of 12 teams Beauchemin wouldn’t mind as a new employer.

According to Darren Dreger the asking price for Mike Fisher is a 1st Rounder+Top Prospect

Yeah okay Ottawa, good luck getting that with a forward whose career high in points is 53.

Wiess to Montreal?

Arpon Basu, a respected Habs media guy, just posted this on Twitter:

#Habs GM Gauthier and #Panthers GM Tallon are having a 1-on-1 conversation right in the media lounge just before their two teams meet
Pierre McGuire and Mitch Melnick discussed on the Team 990 today that the Habs might be looking at Stephen Weiss...something else to consider.

From Darren Dreger at TSN:

Trade discussions around the NHL are heating up as teams move closer to declaring themselves as “buyers” or “sellers.”

Sources around the league consider the Columbus Blue Jackets to be among those most eager and perhaps, closest to making a significant deal.

Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson doesn’t speak publicly about trade negotiations and won’t comment on speculation a few of his key players may be in play.

However, Columbus goaltender Steve Mason (the 2009 NHL rookie of the year), young forward Jakub Voracek (selected seventh overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft) and 28-year-old defenceman Rostislav Klesla – the Blue Jackets’ first ever draft pick (4th overall in 2000) are believed to be drawing trade interest.

Prior to the Florida-Montreal game Wednesday night, Panthers GM Dale Tallon and Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier reportedly spent considerable time chatting, sparking trade speculation.

Tallon tells The Dreger Report that no groundwork for a blockbuster was laid. He says they spent most of their time discussing the state of the game and some of things they expect to deal with at next month’s general managers meetings.

A change might be what Mason needs, because as of right now he looks like Raycroft 2.0

He did play well tonight though.

I think Ottawa should make a trade involving Spezza or Alfredsson for Mason

IMO the Senators should try to attempt to trade Spezza and Alfie anyways.

However it has been reported that they are untouchable.

I doubt Spezza is untouchable but his contract would be pretty hard to trade.

Ottawa would look like Egypt, if they traded Alfie. They really do need to dump Spezza but he doesn't play up to his salary right now, that salary is humongous, and it would take a lot for a team to be willing to take on that deal & clear enough cap at the same time. At the very least, the Sens need part with Mike Fisher and if there's takers for Kovalev and Gonchar...take those deals.

Only untouchables I seen on Ottawa are Erik Karlsson and possibly Jared Cowen.

Rumours are the Lightning are interested in a veteran defenseman. Most likely Beauchemin or Phillips.

SMH from Eklund
Another possibility for Pitt, but there are Rumors this morning of a package deal of Versteeg and Beauchemin to San Jose for Pavelski.

Devils with an early, 2-0 lead in Montreal. Forecheck is dominating this game thus far and Kovalchuk is playing one of the most physical games I've ever seen him play.

According to Pierre LeBrun the Leafs are expected to have both Versteeg (FUCK, don't want to see him go) and Beauchemin (thank God) dealt by the deadline.

I was thinking of something before...say you're Edmonton and finish last again; guaranteed top 3 pick. Do you hold on to it, in what is considered by some a weak draft, or do you trade it?

It sounds crazy (and maybe it's because I'm not a fan) for a team rebuilding but the draft is weak. Why not try to use that pick with a prospect to go after a "star"? Or to sweeten a deal involving Penner's big contract or something? If anything, stock up on cash to make a splash in free agency.

IDK, just an idea I was kicking around
