Miami, FL (Sports Network) - The Florida Marlins made it official on Friday and signed pitcher Ricky Nolasco to a three-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the South Florida Sun-Sentinel had reported it to be worth $26.5 million earlier this week.

The deal will take Nolasco through his final two years of arbitration and his first year of free agency.

"I am very happy for Ricky and for the Marlins," said owner Jeffrey Loria in a statement. "This will be an exciting three years. He is an outstanding competitor and I am looking forward to seeing him and our entire pitching staff in spring training."

Nolasco, who recently turned 28 years old, posted a record of 14-9 with a 4.51 earned run average last season. He struck out 147 and walked 33 despite missing the final month with a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Acquired from the Chicago Cubs in December 2005 as part of the package for Juan Pierre, Nolasco has posted a mark of 54-39 with a 4.45 ERA in 131 career games, including 115 starts, for the Marlins. He ranks second in team history in victories and has led the club in wins twice in the past three years.
Wow. They clearly overpaid for a very inconsistent pitcher.

I agree with you completely here. They got some nice pieces, but overpayment for a guy with a 4.51 ERA and a 14-9 record

I followed him a lot because he was on my fantasy team and he wasn't horrible, but he wasn't great. Although, they definitely overpaid for him, after having a year like he did. Unless, they are expecting crazy good things next year.
