Hockey fans are gearing up for the upcoming NHL season, but the game won’t be quite the same as it used to be after the NHL announced a series of rule changes for 2014-15.
Fans may have gotten a thrill out of the flashy Spin-O-Rama move, but it will no longer be permitted during penalty shots or shootouts.
The league is also continuing its crackdown on dangerous on-ice behaviour, creating a new Game Misconduct category for offences like clipping, charging, elbowing, interference, kneeing, head-butting and butt-ending.
“A player who incurs two such game misconducts in this category would now be automatically suspended for one game,” the league said in a release.
A climbing rate of monetary fines have also been implemented for diving.
