NFL May Create Blood Rule

The NFL may create a rule forbidding players with blood on their person from staying in the game.

J.J. Watt continued to play in Week 4 with blood gushing out of the bridge of his nose.

“The NFL does not have a blood rule,” Mike Pereira said. “Hockey has it, college football has it, the NBA has it: If you have blood on your person you’re asked to leave the game and it has to be stopped and your uniform cleaned up. Should the NFL have a blood rule? I think they should. In this day and age of infectious diseases it makes sense, and that’s exactly why all the other sports have gone in that direction. . . . I’d bet you that they address it in the offseason, especially after seeing J.J. Watt.”

This is a rule I wouldn't mind having. It makes sense to do this, add this one and take out the stupid ones

Yeah this needs to happen ASAP. Crazy that this rule isn't already in place

i never understood why they didnt but it makes sense they dont. facial bleeding happens easy and could turn a huge game around fast if a qb starts bleeding and cant stop.

Feel like dudes bleed too much in football for this to be a rule.

I agree with this. Imagine Peyton, Tom Brady, Kapernick, Wilson or something going out with a nosebleed or something. When RGIII Went down with a Concussion we all saw how the redskins suffered, Imagine that, but for one game.

Go on the sideline, wipe it off, get  back in soon.

Insert blood rule, take out the Illegal Contact rule (I do understand, however, that they're unlikely to insert a rule that's not a penalty and remove a penalty rule). They never call it, now, and when they do, it completely fucks everything up. Plus, it's a stupid rule. There should be no such thing as a five yard penalty that's an automatic first down.

So it might ruin a few minutes then, stitch it up. I guess it'll increase the jobs of the guys on the side

True, there is a gray area then that it is hard to come by. I remember when Eli got bloodied up in preseason against the Jets.

That was not good.
