New York Mets owners Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz are in need of some cash. The team has borrowed millions from the league and is suffering from poor attendance at its games. Plus, it has a massive lawsuit involving money made from Bernie Madoff hanging over its head.
The team has found someone willing to pay around $200 million for 49 percent of the team, CNBC reports, according to Metsblog.com, but there's been a little hitch in the negotiations. Wilpon and Katz want to keep majority ownership so they can control the team's decision-making, but Steve Cohen, who would like to be in on the ownership group, "wants some significant say over how they do what they do," CNBC reports. One of the things Cohen would like to have, the financial news channel notes, are a few seats on the team's board of directors.
Discussions are still happening and the goal is to get this thing done ASAP, CNBC reports, according to Metsblog.com.

i saw this earlier on metsblog and quite frankly i dont know why its news. So what. I mean, I wouldn't expect anyone in their right mind to buy 49% of the team and not have any say in how things operate.

The news isnt so much that they are buying 49%, the news is who is buying it.

and yet his name's been tossed around for weeks now.

I don't like the jerk and once again its proves the Wilpons lack the ability to find the right suitor. This dude is under investigation for insider trading. Oh yeah, thats a great guy to bring in....

Well I didnt hear of him, man this sucks. We need an owner like Mark Cuban who is interested in buying an MLB team actually.

well hold on. i didn't mean like "why are you posting this now" -- more like, "why does the media care, now?" lol.

But yeah, there are people out there, and in fact i've heard that Cohen isn't even the highest bidder for the Mets but he's "preferred" by the Wilpons.

I also read a few months ago that Cuban was asked if he would Bid for the Mets and he essentially said he would talk once they came to him, but he wouldn't go out of his way again to pursue buying a team.
