So here's the story:DJT said:No I meant the 'Duke' should be blue on the chest haha. Not blue at home. Not a fan of the white font on white.
From like 2012-2015, Nike would give all their big schools a special jersey that they'd wear one game a year. In 2015, that was the jersey for Duke. Duke is very much a school (idk who makes these decisions) that will "ride the hot hand" when it comes to jerseys. That year, their "big game" jerseys were the throwback whites (these were actually the Nike special jersey from 2014). But they lost in the ACC Semifinal wearing them, and switched to these ones in the NCAA Tournament. They then won the whole thing, and thus these jerseys secured their spot in Duke's permanent rotation.
2016 comes, and Duke's main jersey is basically these same ones but with the DUKE filled in on the front (like you suggested). But they'd break out these ones in big games. The throwbacks sorta got phased out, but then came back in 2017 by fan request. Those are Duke's main home jerseys now. They lost in those on Monday, so they switched over to these for this game and won. Probably much more of an explanation than you were looking for haha.
